Our Quilt Boss, aka Taffy McLaughlin, is at again: She's launched another block swap! If scrappy, fun quilts made with friends are your thing, you won't want to miss out. The 2016 Block Swap features a square-in-a-square block that finishes at 5" (yours will be squared up at 5-1/2"). Read all the details and join the swap fun here.
Taffy will be at the shop Wednesday, 10/19, from noon-1 p.m. to preview blocks and answer any questions you may have. Head over here to sign up!
Center: 1 ½"square.
Border One: cut two 1½" squares, one for each side & two @ 11/2" x 3 1/2", one for top and bottom.
Border Two: cut two @ 1 ¾" x 3 ¾" for sides. Cut two @ 1 ¾" x 5 ¾" for top and bottom.
This will make a slightly oversized block. Square it up: use/buy a 5 ½" square ruler (Creative Grids, 20% discount when you pre-order one at Intown Quilters for this project) and square your blocks to 5 ½". Nothing smaller!
Make as many as you like. You get back the same number you turn in. 225 blocks will make a 75" x 75" quilt top.
For the swap, make no more than ten (10) blocks with the same fabrics. We prefer smaller groups of 5-6 blocks. We do want variety. Do not repeat fabrics in different groups.
Safety pin 10 different blocks together to swap. Place the same fabric combination on the top of similar stacks so we can more easily tell which stacks are similar. Please do not put each individual stack in a separate ziploc as they are difficult to work with when organizing the swap. Safety pins only.
Write your name, your email address and phone number and the number of blocks you are turning in, on a large enough Ziploc bag to hold them all.
Place ALL your bundles of 10 different blocks in ONE Ziploc bag.
Turn your blocks in at Intown Quilters by Sunday, December 18, 2016.
They will be swapped and ready for you to pick up by Friday, January 6, 2017.
You will receive the same number of blocks you turned in.
Blocks turned in by mail should include return package/envelope with postage.
THE RULES (according to Taffy who is leading this swap)
Only quilt store quality fabric. You are swapping with friends. Swap only your best work!
No solid color fabric, including no all white or all black.
Let me repeat: only quilt store quality fabric. This is not the time to dig your ugliest fabrics out of the bottom of the closet. Choose your colors with Intown Quilters in mind. Choose happy! Make pretty combinations. Consider contrast and visual impact.
Non-conforming blocks will be returned to their maker. Non-conforming blocks are those which include solid fabrics, are not the correct size, contain "ugly" fabric and are packaged incorrectly.
We look forward to your participation and your exciting new scrappy quilt!
