Denyse Schmidt: Pure Improv class



In this workshop, we explore the farthest reaches of improvisational patchwork and your own creativity using a traditional pattern as a foundation for this class. We begin with fun, fast-paced exercises to become completely familiar with a single quilt pattern. Once we internalize its basic structure, we can apply the principles of improvisation to create spontaneous and uniquely individual expressions of a single theme. Some improvisational piecing experience recommended but not required. You'll create between 6-10 blocks in a one-day workshop, and we'll discuss options for completely your quilt, be it throw or king sized.

About Denyse Schmidt
Author, fabric and pattern designer, and teacher Denyse Schmidt studied graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design and took a rather circuitous path to her current career. She is known for her bold, often improvisational designs that employ the use of solid fabrics and negative space. She is a often credited with launching the Modern Quilting movement. She has traveled all over the world as a quilt teacher and makes her home in Connecticut, where she caters to the every whim of her cats.


Any cancellations for the Denyse Schmidt workshops must be done by the end of the day on 12/31/2019 in order to receive a full refund. After 12/31/2019, we will only issue a refund (less a 20% cancellation fee) when we have secured a replacement for your spot from our waiting list.
