Special classes start Saturday

August 1, 2014

We announced a special set of holiday themed classes during our Holly Days last weekend that we think you'll love. Think "The 12 Days of Christmas" with one class a week for 12 weeks. All these classes teach everyday quilting and sewing techniques you might like to learn, including machine applique, circles and even a zippered pouch. We're offering these class for $24 each after kicking them off with a special Holly Days price of $12 for folks who came in during the event.

You, too, can take advantage of that special pricing: Sign up for two classes at one time and each class is $12; sign up with a friend and you each pay just $12 for the classes; or buy any of our holiday themed kits in the shop and you can sign up for these classes for the $12 price. Our 12 Days of Christmas classes start this Saturday, Aug. 2, so sign up while there's still space. More details are below and the classes are now online, so you can click the titles of the classes to sign up online. We don't have pictures of the class samples, so you'll have to come buy to see them if you'd like.

Speaking of class spots going quickly....both Kaffe workshops are now full (you can add your name to a waiting list)! We have scheduled the lecture for 9/23 in the evening with the time and place to be announced. We are taking sign-ups in the shop or online now and folks have been signing up like crazy.

We are working on some of our regular classes and should have those scheduled and announced in the next week or two.

On a personal note, our thoughts and love are with our coworker Pogo Grant and her family, following the loss of her mother last week. Monica Cook spent the last of her 102 years living in Grayson with Pogo and her husband Denny. Totah, as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was much loved and we know they will miss her dearly.

Row by Row Experience 2014

Have you heard about the Row by Row Experience? It's a new kind of shop hop and Intown Quilters is excited to be taking part. Visit any of the participating shops all over the country between now and September 2nd, 2014, and ask for their free row pattern. The rows are based on the theme Sew A Season. Then sew 8 of the rows you have collected into a quilt and be the first person to turn that quilt in to any participating shop to win 25 fat quarters. You can win a bonus prize, too, if you use that shop's row in your quilt. Visit www.rowbyrowexperience.com to read all the details and to get a list of the shops.

You can see our row in the photo above. We chose to do a row of patriotic stars and finished ours into a table runner/wall hanging. We have kits for the white background and the stars for sale in our shop for $9.50. Most of the participating shops are also carrying cute fabric license plates with fun sayings on them.Check out ours to the left...isn't it cute?! You can have one for $4.99.

Classes

Classes are listed below and on the website.
Don't put off signing up for a class you are interested in because some fill up quickly and you don't want to miss out because you forgot to sign up right away.

*You should receive a class supply list about 2 weeks prior to the class by email unless you have stopped by the shop to get one in person.
*Class cancellation policy
You can cancel a class up to two weeks prior to class for a full refund. We will only cancel a class if we have to. If you miss a class we can try to get you in the next class with a fee (fee is determined by the length of the class) to cover the lost spot in that class.

Sewing machines are required for classes:
All classes that have sewing involved in them, require you to bring your own sewing machine. We may have one you can borrow but it is best for you to sew on a machine that you are used to. For beginners, it is best to learn on a machine that you will use at home so you can work on your own at home later. Basic sewing machines are all that you need. If you are unsure of staying with sewing and do not want to buy a machine, then ask around of friends and family to borrow one for awhile so you can sew at home and really test out your interest. If you do borrow a machine or buy a used machine, it is highly advised that you get the machine serviced before coming to a class, because machines that have not been used regularly tend to act up as soon as someone tries to use them, which seems to happen in the middle of classes. You don't want to have a frustrating first class experience because the machine was not in good condition to sew.

Help Dalton Davis
Many of you probably remember Dalton Davis, who used to work at the shop before he went off to college. Dalton was a foster kid in Atlanta and now is on his own trying to make his way through college. He needs our help now. He has never gotten enough money from the state and scholarships to cover his living expenses, books and supplies for school so I have been helping him the past four years, along with some regular help from a few of our very dedicated (and generous) customers, who Dalton and I thank very much! I am reaching out to you again because this talented young man really could use some financial help continuing his education. If you are willing, click on this paypal button to make a donation or mail or drop by cash or a check made out to Dalton Davis. Anything will help.
