June 30, 2016
Summertime and the living is steamy, although we're certainly grateful for the recent rains and the break from all that heat. It's been too hot to be outside much, which makes it perfect quilting and sewing weather in my book. Small projects are great this time of year, as are portable ones -- we're happy to help you find just the right thing to work on here or on the road!

Intown Quilters will be closed Monday, July 4th, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. We're open regular hours through the weekend and, of course, you can shop online 24/7/365! Did you know we offer a local pick up option? Save on shipping costs and have your order cut and ready for you to pick up.

Our next round of one-hour, $10 classes are up and ready for sign ups! We're listing all of July's offerings in one lump this time but you'll only have through Monday, July 4, to register. Class supply lists will be sent via email on Tuesday, July 5, but you can download them immediately from each class listing on our website. So convenient! In response to some requests, we've scheduled four classes back-to-back on Saturday, July 30 -- make it a day of learning and kick your creativity into overdrive!

Mark your calendar and make plans for this year's Holly Days! Holly Days, an annual joint event between Intown Quilters and A Scarlet Thread, is our take on "Christmas in July." Both shops will be showcasing great holiday gift and decorating ideas and shoppers will receive a free pattern for a holiday themed quilt from each shop.Visit A Scarlet Thread July 8-9 and Intown Quilters July 15-16 for a head start on your Christmas decorating and gift-giving ideas! Pick up your Christmas card at A Scarlet Thread the first weekend and turn it in at Intown Quilters the second weekend of the event to be eligible for a drawing for several gift certificates. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Our Kaffe Fassett Collective order of wide backings arrived a little earlier than expected, not that we're complaining. What's not to love about a range of 108" wide fabrics in some of our favorite prints and colors? Stop by to see for yourself! The collection includes 10 pieces: five colorways in two different prints that complement that gorgeous Kaffe palette.

It's never a dull day when an Alexander Henry order arrives. The quirky novelty prints are sure to elicit plenty of smiles and even a chuckle or two. Our latest additions are no exception, from striking Day of the Dead prints (two different sizes) to manga princesses to cats in Christmas greenery (it's like real life but with less tree toppling) to traditional Asian cats. Sewing should be fun and there's no doubt these fabrics will help you accomplish that!

The clock is ticking on some of our pre-order fabrics: Tuesday is the last day to pre-order the upcoming Thicket by Gingiber for Moda at the discounted price! This is such a graphically striking line, featuring black and white prints and a really cool pair of panels that feature those same b&w designs as woodland creatures.

It's also your last chance to sign up for our upcoming summer camp sessions. We have two weeks of camp scheduled in July, both with only a couple of spots still open. Registration for those camps will close on Tuesday, July 5 -- don't wait or you will miss out!

    Happy quilting,

2016 Block-of-the-Month Programs

Join us on a machine and handwork adventure creating Jen Kingwell's My Small World quilt! We fell in love with this pattern when it debuted in Quilt Mania magazine so it was no surprise that we asked Jen if she'd teach it during her visit to IQ last year.

Leslie has been sewing blocks and pulling this quilt together and we think you're going to just love it! IQ's Small World BOM meets on the fourth Saturday of the month for 6 months (start date: 4/23) at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $120 (quilt top fabric is included) and the book My Small World by Jen Kingwell is required (save 20% off the book after you sign up for this BOM).

For folks who love a more traditional sampler quilt, have we got a great one for you! We've taken Leila Gardunia's book You Can Quilt! and put a decidedly IQ spin on it. Lots of bright, fun Kaffe Fassett prints that we love, in a variety of blocks that make for a quilt that covers a variety of techniques.

Sandy has created a fun setting for the 12 blocks but she will also show you a more traditional sampler setting and an even more modern setting, too. Sandy's You Can Quilt! BOM meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month (start date: 4/9), at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $220 (quilt top fabric is included) and the book You Can Quilt! is required (save 20% off the book after you sign up for this BOM). Look for the Paypal button on this page to sign up for monthly billing through Paypal for You Can Quilt! BOM.

This year's handwork BOM is one of our favorite quilts from Fall Quilt Market: Glorious Hexagons! Liza Prior Lucy and Kim McLean used Katja Marek's The New Hexagon (the basis of our 2015 Hexy BOM), along with some blocks of their own design with the stunning fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Collective.

Our Glorious Hexagons Club kicked off the first Saturday in February 2016. Join Mary Lou Mojonnier at Intown Quilters for a 12-month stitch along to create your version of these quilts using The New Hexagon and a booklet from Liza and Kim. Your Glorious Hexagons Club membership includes the supplemental booklet by Liza and Kim, monthly meeting time with Mary Lou and a 3" acrylic hexagon template, as well as EPP papers each month, cut specifically for these stunning quilts from Paper Pieces.

We've set up a monthly subscription through PayPal (PayPal account required); just click here to sign up. IQ's Glorious Hexagon's Club is $62.50 for the first 3 months and $18.50/month for the remaining 9 months. If you prefer to not use the Paypal monthly subscription system, you can pay for the full year all at once in the shop or on the phone.

Head to the Glorious Hexagons listing on our website for all the details (including shipping options for out-of-towners) and to sign up!

By Hand-the Art of Slow Quilting

Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. Help Dalton Davis
Many of you probably remember Dalton Davis, who used to work at the shop before he went off to college. Dalton was a foster kid in Atlanta and then was on his own trying to make his way through college. He has finished school and is now trying to make it in NYC in his Fashion Design field. He still needs a bit of help while he gets started. I have been helping him the past five years, along with some regular help from a few of our very dedicated (and generous) customers, who Dalton and I thank very much! I am reaching out to you again because this talented young man really could use some financial help as he gets going in the working world. If you are willing, click on this paypal button to make a donation or mail or drop by cash or a check made out to Dalton Davis. Anything will help.
