Classes are listed below and on the website. Don't put off signing up for a class you are interested in because some fill up quickly and you don't want to miss out because you forgot to sign up right away.
Ongoing IQ Class Policies
* You should receive a class supply list about 2 weeks prior to the class by email unless you have stopped by the shop to get one in person.
* Students may set up their spaces no more than 15 minutes prior to the start of the class.
*Class cancellation policy: You can cancel a class up to two weeks prior to class for a full refund. We will only cancel a class if we have to. If you miss a class we can try to get you in the next class with a fee (fee is determined by the length of the class) to cover the lost spot in that class.
Quilting/Sewing Classes
2016 Block Swap Now through 12/18 $5
Our Quilt Boss, aka Taffy McLaughlin, is at again: She's launched another block swap! If scrappy, fun quilts made with friends are your thing, you won't want to miss out. The 2016 Block Swap features a square-in-a-square block that finishes at 5" (yours will be squared up at 5-1/2"). Read all the details and join the swap fun here. Sewing Basics Thursdays, 9/22 & 9/29, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. $75
Have you always wanted to learn how to sew? Did you take home ec in junior high but haven’t sewn since? This is the class for you! This 6-hour course (broken into two 3-hour sessions) covers all the basics to get you sewing. You’ll learn the parts of a sewing machine, how to thread it (including how to wind a bobbin),sewing terminology, essential tools, how to read a pattern and more. Students complete a small project in the first class; the second half of the class is spent sewing a larger project (a roomy tote bag with patch pocket; pattern adapted from Mary's newest book, Hack That Tote!). Taught by Mary Abreu.

Cornerstones Friday, 9/30, noon-1 p.m. $10 A few measurements, a little bit of simple math, and voila! You, too, can add interest to any quilt project with cornerstones. Taught by Sandy Stites.
Willow Tank Sunday, 10/2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. $55
We’ve gone Willow crazy at IQ! The Willow Tank by Grainline Studio is fitted at the shoulders, with a relaxed fit below the bust. The IQ crew has made it in everything from lawn to double gauze to quilting cotton. It’s an easy top to make: Only two pattern pieces plus binding for the arms and neck. This is a great pattern for an adventurous beginner and beyond! Techniques include darts, hemming and applying bias facing. We'll be working on View A from the pattern, which covers sizes 0 to 18 (33" to 44" bust). Taught by Mary Abreu.
"I've Got Your Back" Wednesday, 10/5, noon-1 p.m. $10 Take your quilt backs from plain to wow with suggestions on pieced backs. Also discuss the basic mechanics of choosing backing fabrics and requirements for quilting your quilts, including what you need to accommodate a long-arm quilter. This is a technique/lecture class. Students should be prepared to take notes. Taught by Taffy McLaughlin.
Machine Quilting I, an Introduction Saturday, 10/8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. $45
This is a hands-on class to introduce the basics of machine quilting. You will learn several types of machine quilting: straight stitch, in the ditch, and a bit of free motion. Concepts discussed include selecting the design and thread to complement the quilt. Book required: Machine Quilting by Sue Nickels. Taught by Taffy McLaughlin. Class does not cover construction of a quilt top.
Machine Quilting II, Free-motion Sunday, 10/9, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. $45
A practice session to explore some of the many possibilities of free-motion machine quilting. Includes planning the quilting design and filling the space. Students must have experience machine quilting. If you sign up for Machine Quilting I on 10/8, you will not be able to register for this class without instructor approval. Students must bring their own sewing machine capable of free motion quilting: ie, a free motion foot and the ability to lower the feed dogs. Book required: Machine Quilting by Sue Nickels. Taught by Taffy McLaughlin.
Zippered Cross-Body Bag Saturday, 10/15, 1:30-5:30 p.m. $45
Begin your tote hacking adventures in this fun bag-making class! This versatile bag features both zippered and slip pockets, making it perfect for those jaunts to the farmers market or anytime you need a smaller bag. Book required: Hack that Tote! by Mary Abreu. Taught by Mary Abreu.
2016 Block Swap Preview Wednesday, 10/19, noon-1 p.m. $5 Join Taffy McLaughlin as she covers all you need to know to take part in the 2016 Block Swap. The 2016 Block Swap features a square-in-a-square block that finishes at 5" (yours will be squared up at 5-1/2"). Read all the details and join the swap fun here. Taffy will preview blocks and answer any questions you may have. Bring your fabric, sewing machine and supplies to sit and work on your swap blocks in the classroom that afternoon after the class.
Knitting Classes
Sit & Knit Tuesdays, 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends!
Cable Knitting 101 Friday, 9/23, noon-1 p.m. $10
Knitting cables is easier than it looks! This quick class will teach you the basics of cabling and have you knitting that cute cabled hat or cowl in no time! Please note: this class requires homework prior to the start of class. Taught by Leslie Piper.
Two-At-A-Time Socks: Make a Full Pair Sundays, 10/2 & 10/16, 3:30-5:30 p.m. $45
Avoid "second sock syndrome" by knitting your next pair of socks two-at-a-time! This two-session class picks up where our Two-At-A-Time Socks: How to Cast On with Magic Loop class left off. Learn how to turn heels and close up the toes while knitting your very own pair of top-down socks using the Magic Loop method! Taught by Leslie Piper. Please note, this is an intermediate knitting class, and the How to Cast On with Magic Loop class is a prerequisite. Students should be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and working in the round. No prior sock knitting experience is required.
