March 21, 2017

Can you feel the excitement? The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop starts today and we're ready to welcome you to IQ. This is the 17th year of the event and we can't wait to show off all the great things we've made for this year's Hop. The theme is "We've Got a Notion" and you're going to love how each shop has brought that theme to life. The Shop Hop runs through Sunday, March 26. Get all the details here!

Keep in mind when coming to see us for Shop Hop that the traffic around Intown Quilters is worse in the morning and evening so middle of the day is best. The traffic has been made worse today by a traffic light out at the intersection of N Druid Hills Rd and Clairmont Rd (which will hopefully be fixed shortly) and by road repaving on Lawrenceville Hwy near N Decatur Road which may go on for another day or two. We promise - we're well worth the minor traffic hiccups!

We had so much fun with Jen Kingwell during her last visit to Atlanta and we're excited to welcome the Patchwork Wonder from Down Under back to IQ May 25-28!

Australian designer and author Jen Kingwell has taken the quilt world by storm with her distinctive, scrappy style, delightful personality, and passion for sharing her talents. Join us for a weekend of stitching fun with one of our favorite quilters.

We'll start things off with a Techniques class on Thursday, May 25. This is the class for you if you've never taken a class with Jen (please note: this class is a pre-requisite for Jen's other classes at IQ or having taken a previous Jen Kingwell class). This full-day class covers Jen's most-used techniques, including using acrylic templates, cutting templates, fussy cutting, hand piecing including curves, hand appliqué and hand quilting. Jen's distinctive, scrappy quilts are the perfect showcase for her techniques and you'll leave the class prepared for tackling any of the projects in her growing library of patterns!

We'll dive into Jen's projects during two full-day classes on Friday, May 26, and Sunday, May 28. You can sign up for wither or both and there is a price for the entire weekend that saves you $100.

On Friday, students will spend the day with Jen working on projects from her book Quilt Lovely. Choose from either Glitter, Daisy Do, Clam Bake, and Mrs. Bannister's Stars. Jen's tips and guidance for creating the blocks for these quilts will have you embracing handwork like never before. Jen has recently released acrylic templates to help with making all four of these projects and you can pre-order them (at a discount) on our website.

Sunday's class with Jen includes your choice of projects: Queen's Cross, I'm a Farmer's Daughter, Halo, My Small World, Long Time Gone or Delilah (for Delilah TOM participants). And what can be more fun than getting the designer's input while working on your block-of-the-month/template-of-the-month quilts? Jen has recently released acrylic templates for Queen's Cross, I'm a Farmer's Daughter and Halo; pre-order them (at a discount) via our website to complement your previously purchased pattern.

The fun doesn't stop there! Spend Saturday afternoon with Jen as she presents a trunk show and talk about her work and then signs books and patterns. She will be sure to dazzle you with some of her fantastic quilts and you'll be charmed by her wonderful personality and beautiful accent. You can pre-order (at a discount) patterns, books and templates on our website.  And if you're signed up for our Delilah Template-of-the-Month, Jen will be leading your TOM meeting on Saturday morning. There are a limited number of spots for this quilt program and it's getting close to full -- don't wait too long to sign up because you'll miss out!

If you just can't pick between all of these gorgeous projects, there is also an option to take the full weekend of classes with Jen!

Please note that our visiting teacher cancellation policy requires any cancellations for the Jen Kingwell workshops be done by the end of the day on April 29th in order to receive a full refund. After April 29th, we will only issue a refund (less a 20 percent cancellation fee) when we have secured a replacement for your spot from our waiting list. Please allow 7-10 days for processing of your refund.

     Happy stitching,
     Sarah & the IQ crew

Knitting Classes

Sit & Knit
Tuesdays, 5-8 pm
Thursdays, 10 am-2 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.
When possible the first hour of this time is dedicated to teaching folks how to cast-on and knit stitch. You can then sit and knit in the group which is a great way to get started because there is help nearby as you practice your knitting.
(We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bit to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

BOMs/CLUBS

Delilah Template-of-the-Month
Finished quilt size: ~66" x 69"
Meets 4th Saturday of the month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. starting April 22

We are excited to announce that Jen Kingwell, herself, will lead the 2nd meeting of this group on May 28th!
When Jen Kingwell showed off the blocks for her Delilah Template-of-the-Month program, we couldn’t sign up fast enough to host the program. This innovative quilt program features acrylic templates and a mix of hand and machine piecing for an eye-catching quilt with that signature Jen Kingwell look. We don’t call her the Patchwork Wonder from Down Under for nothing!

Mary Lou Mojonnier (and some months Leslie Piper) will lead this quilt program on the fourth Saturday of the month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. starting April 22 – but there are limited spaces available. Each month, you’ll receive tips for creating that month’s block(s). Delilah participants will receive a set of templates and instructions each month of the program, which spans 12 months.

We are offering two different fabric color stories for our Delilah TOM participants, both of which are in line with the scrappy feel of Jen's original blocks. The Delilah Light color story sets the bright mix of fabrics against a mix of white with black fabrics. The Delilah Dusk color story uses a darker mix of background fabrics which makes the warm prints really jump.

Delilah Template of the Month participants can choose from either the Light or Dusk fabric options (fabric distributed monthly) and receive the laser-cut acrylic templates plus block instructions, monthly tips and tricks, and a quarterly sit-and-sew (dates to be announced later) for $330 for the year -- but if you sign up and pay in full before Feb. 28 the price will be only $300.

We've also set up a monthly payment option through Paypal. You'll be charged $75 for the first month* and $26 per month the subsequent 11 months. A Paypal account is not required. *Down payment for the program is subject to change after February 28, 2017, to accommodate an abbreviated payment schedule.

Prefer to use your own fabrics? Sign up for the Delilah TOM template-only option! You can pay for the full year up front for only $240 via Paypal. A Paypal account is not required. Templates will be distributed monthly beginning in April at each Delilah TOM session.

Sign up for our Delilah TOM template-only option via Paypal for our monthly payment. You'll be charged $75 for the first month* and $18 per month the subsequent 11 months. A Paypal account is not required. *Down payment for the program is subject to change after February 28, 2017, to accommodate an abbreviated payment schedule.

Take advantage of our Friday Sit and Stitch sessions or join our third Saturday By Hand group for sewing time to work on your blocks over the course of the year. Live out of town? No problem! We’re happy to ship your BOM materials to you for an additional fee. Contact us for details!

Long Time Gone
Finished quilt size: ~66" x67"
Meets the second Saturday of the month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. starting April 8

Long Time Gone is one of our favorite patterns from Jen Kingwell’s October 2016 Quilt Market release and we’re excited to offer it as a Block-of-the-Month program in 2017! Jen’s penchant for scrappy quilt blocks arranged in unconventional settings have been a hit here at IQ and we think Long Time Gone will quickly be a must-sew quilt for you. This machine-pieced quilt includes a variety of scrappy blocks, mixing bold prints with low-volume background fabrics.

Sandy Stites will lead this group, which will meet on the second Saturday of the month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. starting April 8. Each month, participants will receive tips for creating that month’s block(s).

We are offering two different fabric color stories for our Long Time Gone BOM participants. The Scrappy color story is a Jen-meets-IQ range of fabrics, mixing bright prints with low-volume fabrics. The Batik color story takes a rainbow of richly colored batiks and pairs them with neutral batiks for contrast.

The Long Time Gone BOM includes the pattern by Jen Kingwell (a $28 value) plus a quarterly sit-and-sew (dates to be announced later) during the course of the year. With either the Scrappy or Batik fabric options (fabric distributed monthly), the Long Time Gone BOM is $260 -- but if you sign up and pay in full before Feb. 28 the price will be only $230.

We've set up a monthly payment option through Paypal. You'll be charged $75 for the first month* and $20 per month the subsequent 11 months. *Down payment for the program is subject to change after February 28, 2017, to accommodate an abbreviated payment schedule.

Sign up for our Long Time Gone BOM bring-your-own fabric option for $148 -- but pay in full before Feb. 28 and the price is $130. Live out of town? No problem! We’re happy to ship your BOM materials to you for an additional fee. Contact us for details.

Glorious Gardens
The first Saturday of the month starting in February and costs $60 for the class time. You can see all the details here.

The newest quilt-along from one of our favorite books, using those beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabrics we adore!

Kim McLean has created another incredible quilt using English paper piecing. Kim used a fun hexagon block, then partnered with Paper Pieces to create custom paper pieces packs and acrylic templates to make it easier for anyone to create this Glorious Gardens quilt -- including you!

Join Mary Lou Mojonnier at Intown Quilters for a 12-month stitch along to create your version of this quilt using a pattern booklet from Kim. You'll have the help and support of Mary Lou and a group of fellow hand piecers, too. What better way to spend a few hours once a month (or maybe even twice if you join the By Hand group on the 3rd Saturday here).

By Hand-the Art of Slow Quilting
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet on the 3rd Saturday from 9:30am-1pm. $5 per month.

2017 UFO CHALLENGE
We're here to help you tackle those UFOs that have been hovering around your craft space. Our UFO Challenge has kicked off and we're excited that so many folks want to clear out the old to move on to the new.

Drop in and bring us a list of projects you want to finish with your name and contact info on it or use our handy online form to join the challenge. For every one of them you finish between now and March 31st, you'll be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate and if the project was one you bought at Intown Quilters Fabric and Yarn, you'll receive and extra entry into the drawing. Get two more drawing entries by posting a picture of your project as it is now (in the kit bag still, on the design wall, a collection or yarn or fabric in a pile) on Instagram then tag us  -- @intownquilters -- and use the hashtag #intownquiltersUFOchallenge. Post a picture of the finished project with the same tags and you will get an extra entry for each of those two photos.

We even have a sewing and quilting UFO day scheduled to help you get things finished. If your UFOs are of the yarn variety,
check out our Let's Knit a Sweater "support group" or drop in for one of our Sit & Knit sessions (days and times listed above).
