Jan. 7, 2017

We want to remind you of our new "winter hours" for 2018. Wednesdays are back! We are closed on Monday. We apologize if this is inconvenient for anyone! We open at 9:30 in the morning and Wednesday through Saturday close at 5 pm to make better use of the daylight hours. Our late Tuesdays continue and you can still shop in store until 8 pm. On Sunday we are open from 12-4 pm.

We've had a busy first week of 2018 at IQF&Y and are excited about the Salute to Levens Hall program which kicked off this past Saturday. Did you know we have a new IQF&Y Inspiration Facebook group? It is a place where you can post pictures of your progress on projects and see the photos of others for inspiration. We have several photos of Salute to Levens Hall already, as well as photos from all kinds of other projects on that page.

Would you like to know more about Salute to Levens Hall and some of our other fabulous new 2018 quilt programs? We have scheduled a 10-month Kaffe Mystery Quilt, The Salute to Levens Hall EPP quilt, Jen Kingwell's Golden Days and Wendy Williams' Urban Owls. We are also looking into a more "modern" block of the month possibly made with solids. Please let us know if you would be interested one by emailing us here. Watch for a few more to be announced in January to start later in the Spring.

Don't miss out on some of the classes starting very soon:

     * Kaffe Stripe Quilt with Taffy McLaughlin
     * Beginning Quiltmaking -- Thursday and Saturday sessions
     * Glitter Block by Jen Kingwell with Taffy McLaughlin
     * Copy Your Clothes: Favorite T-Shirt with Chrissy Weeks
     * Knitted Socks for Beginners with Leslie Piper.

We are also excited about The Georgia Bulldogs making it to the National Championship game tomorrow here in Atlanta! We are not all UGA fans at IQF&Y but we live in Georgia and our Georgia team made it so Go Dawgs!
We have some great UGA fabric bundles and flannel bundles that would make really fun quilts for UGA fans. We have bolts of the flannel and soft Cuddle fabric that would make great backs!

And......we have just received the new Tula Pink Free Spirit Fabric Solids collection. They are so pretty and coordinate perfectly with Tula's collections plus so many other fabrics, too!

 Happy stitching,

     Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

Then we will make a practice top to determine if we need to make any further adjustments. We will also discuss fabric selection and preparation for your "for real" T-shirt. In the second session, we will finalize your fit, make sure you have a revised pattern and sew together your "for real" top out of your beloved fabric. Taught by Chrissy Weeks.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Thursday Sit & Knit

Thursdays 10 am-2 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting. (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bit to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Learn to Knit
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for only $5 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. We've found tis is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. We are happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.

Knitted Sock for Beginners

Saturdays 1/27, 2/24 & 3/24/18, 3-5 pm $55
Have you been itching to learn how to knit your very own socks? Then this is the class for you! Learn the basics of top-down sock knitting on double-pointed needles in this three part class with classes scheduled a month apart to allow for time to complete each part. Once you've knitted a pair, you'll have the skills you need to tackle any top-down sock pattern using those beautiful sock yarns we all love. Students should be confident with knit and purl stitches. Some experience with knitting in the round is helpful but not required. Taught by Leslie Piper.

BLOCK-OF-THE-MONTH QUILTS/CLUBS

We're looking forward to a fun year of quilting with friends in our 2018 programs: Kim McLean's Salute to Levens Hall, Urban Owls by Wendy Williams, Jen Kingwell's Golden Days and the Kaffe Mystery Quilt!

Salute to Levens Hall
Salute to Levens Hall kicks off the first Saturday in January. It is an English paper-pieced quilt and Mary Lou Mojonnier will be leading the monthly meetings for this 12-month stitch along. Read all the details and sign up here and order your Salute to Levens Hall supplies here.

Golden Days Block of the Month
We've had a blast with Delilah, Jen Kingwell's 2017 template-of-the-month quilt program, so we immediately signed up for her 2018 program, Golden Days. Golden Days features laser-cut acrylic and mylar templates. Participants receive the templates and block instructions each month over the course of a year. As you know form last year, every shop has limited spots for this program (which begins in March 2018), so don't wait too long to sign up. Read all the details and sign up here.

Paper Piecing & More Club

Come join our paper piecing teacher Wanda Earley as she leads a monthly paper piece sit-and-sew club. We will get together and work on foundation paper pieced projects. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on the 1st Tuesday of the month. The club is $20/month.

Join Wanda Earley on her journey through the Urban Owls quilt designed by Australian pattern designer, Wendy Williams, starting the first Tuesday in January. Urban Owls mixes together a variety of techniques, including foundation paper-piecing, appliqué, machine piecing and there's even room to embellish with embroidery or crazy quilt style stitching. Read all the details and sign up here and order (excluded from the end-of-year sale) your Urban Owls pattern here.

Kaffe Fassett Mystery Quilt
It's no secret that we love all things Kaffe Fassett, so we're gearing up for the Kaffe Fassett Mystery Quilt program for 2018. The 10-month program starts in March and you'll have your choice of two fabric colorways: Light or Dark. Read all the details and sign up here.

By Hand-the Art of Slow Quilting
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet on the 3rd Saturday from 9:30am-1pm. $5 per month.

COUPONS
We have our IQ loyalty program, which is good for 20% off all regularly priced merchandise. Since launching our new computerized point-of-sale system, we are changing from paper cards to an electronic rewards system. No more forgetting your cards at home! We are happy to add your existing IQ cards to our system; just bring them in with your name and email address written on them.

We do occasionally give out coupons during shop hop and other special events like quilt shows. Coupons cannot be used on special orders or sale items, cannot be combined and there are no rain checks.
