You are receiving this email because you expressed an interest in our September classes with designer Shannon Brinkley. We were overwhelmed by the responses to join our priority notification list and decided to increase our classes with Shannon from two to three! You have 24 hours to sign up for the classes before we send them out to our general newsletter list on Thursday, 5/31/18, as part of our weekly email newsletter.
Shannon will be teaching one Color Confidence class and two Scrappy Appliqué classes. We are considering an evening lecture and will let you know if that gets scheduled.
Color Confidence Wednesday, 9/26/2018, $130
Join quilt/fabric designer, author and national teacher Shannon Brinkley for a class that will build your “Color Confidence". Lunch will be included (we will inquire about any special dietary needs closer to the class date).
In this workshop, we begin (or continue) to train our eye to notice hue, color harmony, and balance. You'll learn about color theory, exploring classic color palettes and how to build them, and go through several exercises that will literally train our eyes to distinguish subtle differences in color, value, and saturation. You’ll also learn how to mix and match prints, playing with color and scale to create totally unique and beautiful looks.
This workshop is very hands on, concrete, and fun. This class is appropriate for anyone from those who have no idea how to use a color wheel and only ever use pre-cuts, to more advanced quilters with a great eye for color who are looking to create more interesting, dynamic palettes and develop a signature style.
Scrappy Applique Thursday, 9/27, or Friday, 9/28/2018, $150
Join quilt/fabric designer, author and national teacher Shannon Brinkley for a full-day class, with lunch included (we will inquire about any special dietary needs closer to the class date), covering her signature technique: Scrappy Appliqué. It is quick and simple to pick up, yet allows for a lot of creative possibilities – and it’s a perfect for a variety of skill levels.
Since the Scrappy Appliqué process is the same despite the template chosen, each student chooses their favorite template/pattern, and goes through the whole process together. Every student's project is totally unique, and it is so much fun to see what everyone creates!
Appliqué need not be tedious, confusing, or monotonous. Explore several creative appliqué finishing options, including Shannon’s Faux-Needleturn technique, no-fray raw-edge appliqué, finishing appliqué edges with hand or machine embroidery, and her fun "Peek-a-boo" Reverse appliqué method.
About the instructor:
Shannon Brinkley is a quilt/fabric designer, author, and national speaker and teacher based in Austin, Texas.
Shannon has always been drawn to any craft involving textiles. As a young girl, she explored weaving, embroidery, knitting, garment sewing, among others, and began quilting in college, where she fell completely in love with the craft. Inspired by her love of fabric and the texture, Shannon wrote the book Scrappy Bits Applique, where she teaches how to turn scraps of fabric into gorgeous, modern art quilts by collaging a variety of fabrics, vintage and new, with different colors, tones, and patterns to create really interesting and unique textures.
A former elementary teacher, teaching remains a huge passion of Shannon's, and she speaks and teaches her modern quilting techniques all across the United States.
Any cancellations for the Shannon Brinkley workshops must be done by the end of the day on 8/24/2018 in order to receive a full refund. After that date, we will only issue a refund (less a 20 percent cancellation fee) when we have secured a replacement for your spot from our waiting list. You are welcome to try to find a replacement if you have a friend who might like to take your place, with no cancellation fee.
