July 18th, 2018

    We are on a leggings-and-DIY-tunic kick at IQF&Y after I discovered some leggings I love. I mentioned one day that I haven't worn leggings since the the early '90s so everyone was shocked when I came in wearing leggings a few months ago. All the IQF&Y crew wanted to order them and they were sold out everywhere online, so Mary and I went off to the Apparel Mart downtown and ordered them to sell here at the shop! We had a lot of fun doing an unboxing event on Facebook Live to show off the new leggings and I even make an appearance, showing off a tunic made with some of our Cotton+Steel double gauze with a pair of the leggings.

    To make wearing these leggings (or any leggings you have) more fun, we are launching some classes to help you make tops. Mary and Chrissy are excited about teaching folks how to make tunics and all kinds of other garments. We know not everyone wants to wear leggings or tunics, so we are planning some Wardrobe Studio classes for sewing some great pieces for your wardrobe. Anything from Dress No. 1 for summer, Pants No. 1 for lounging, Dress No. 2 for cooler weather, to a variety of Tina Givens flowy patterns or something from the Tunic Bible would be great to make in some of your fabric! Both Mary and Chrissy will host DIY Wardrobe Planning Sessions first to help you pick some patterns (you can see a few of the ones we carry here but others will be up on the site later this week), decide what size you should make and gather supplies to get ready to jump into your DIY wardrobe. After we have had a few planning sessions and hear what dates work best for you, we will schedule classes to work for those interested. If you are interested in a Wardrobe Studio class, please EMAIL us to let us know the best days and times for you!

On the yarn side of things:

    Knitting help: Our Saturday Sit-and-Knit will not meet again until 8/4. We will also have limited knitting help at our Thursday Sit-and-Knit, so we recommend calling before stopping by to make sure someone can help you out.

    We have fallen in love with all things Knitted Wit, including Lorajean's HerStory 2018 Sock Club. Each month of this year, she's releasing a "mystery' skein of sock yarn to celebrate the history of women in STEM (science, technology, education and math). We've just received our shipment of the July HerStory but we've only got a limited number of skeins -- and we can't share any pictures online until 7/25/2018. Stop by to check it out in person and read the accompanying love letter, spotlighting this month's honoree.

    Our class offerings for July and August give you plenty of options to learn a new technique or skill. We also have several teachers who can schedule private lessons for sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet. Email us for more information. And don't miss out on these classes:

     * Introduction to Hand Embroidery
     * Intermediate Paper Piecing

Learn to Knit
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for only $5 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. We are happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.
