Oct. 1, 2018

    Happy Monday to you!

If you missed our newsletter last week, we had a "Rainy Days" sale, in the shop and online, Friday through Sunday. The coupon code was not working for part of the weekend so we are extending the online sale through midnight Eastern time tonight. Use RAIN in the coupon spot when you are checking out to receive 20% off on your online order today and we'll include a FREE fat quarter for every $15 spent in your package (if you are picking your order up this week we will let you select your fat quarters from our basket).

Now for the news: The building housing IQF&Y has been listed for sale. With the impending 2-3 years of demolition and development of North DeKalb Mall, we have decided it is best to MOVE the shop (not close). As most of you have noticed, traffic is the worst it's ever been on N. Druid Hills Road. Combine major demolition going on right next door with the poor DeKalb County sewer infrastructure right in front of the shop, (the reason for our plumbing problems over the years) and it seems crazy to stay in our current location, as it grows increasingly difficult for our customers to get to us and where we might face some very scary sewer problems (and maybe rodent scattering that goes along with big building demolition). We have no idea where we will end up as we cannot even being to look for a new home until the building goes under contract and that can take a very long time in commercial real estate. We have done a little preliminary research and have found some affordable, accessible locations on the market so we feel good about options when the time comes. We will do our best to stay somewhere within a few miles of the current location. Please continue to shop with us during this transitional time! We are continuing to bring in new fabrics, yarns, and notions to help you create all the wonderful quilting, knitting, sewing and crocheting projects you are planning. We will keep you updated on the latest news in the newsletter. If you have any questions, please email us and we will do our best to answer you, although the information above is all we have at the moment.

On another more fun note, FreeSpirit Fabrics is hosting a "Block Party" and  the company has asked us to collect 12" x 12" blocks to "help enrich our community with special quilts." They've even published the book FreeSpirit Block Party with blocks designed by some of their fabric designers including Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Tula Pink and several others. You can pre-order your book here. All proceeds from the book go to Project Night Night, providing free night packages to homeless youth. We will be collecting our blocks to go to Quilts for Kids in our greater Atlanta area. Watch for a "Block Party" sewing day to be scheduled and announced in our next newsletter.

As many of you know, we have been taking part in the Golden Days Block of the Month designed by Jen Kingwell. We realized today that we should actually let folks know that we have a few extra kits available for the Golden Days Block of the Month. These kits will include the mylar and laser cut acrylic templates for the appliqué and pieced blocks, plus the fabric that the shop has picked out each month. These are "catch up" kits: They include all the fabric, block patterns and templates that have been released so far (March-August) and you'll receive the remaining blocks each month until the end of the program, starting in September, (And, yes, we can ship!) You can find the details on the website here.

Did you miss out on the
2018 Kaffe Fassett Mystery Quilt? WE still have a couple of kits left in the Pastel and Dark colorways of the Mystery Quilt. These are "catch up" kits: They include all the fabric and block patterns that have been released so far (March-September) and you'll receive the remaining blocks each month until the end of the program, starting in October. (And, yes, we can ship!)

Learn to Knit
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for only $5 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. We are happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.
