Oct. 5, 2018

Learning a new craft or technique is a great way to jump start your creativity and get excited about your favorite hobby. If you're ready to dive into something completely different or just expand your crafty toolbox, check out our class offerings to see what you can do with IQF&Y!

If you've never sewn before -- or know someone who wants to learn -- you can get started with our Sewing 101 class on Saturday, 10/13/18. Mary Abreu gives you the essentials for using your sewing machine and helps you understand more about fabric and working with sewing patterns, too. You'll leave the class after completing a small project (and an eagerness to keep sewing). If you've sewn before and want to go further with your sewing by tackling a pattern you've been wanting to make (like Dress No 2 or any other garment pattern you like), then Wardrobe Sewing is the class for you on 10/27/2018.

Our most popular class at IQF&Y is our Beginning Quilt Making series and the next session starts in just a couple of weeks. This series of Saturday classes takes you through the entire process of making a lap-size quilt including adding borders, making the quilt sandwich, quilting and binding. Join Lisa Kaupp for four weeks of essentials, starting Saturday, 10/20/18!

Foundation paper piecing gives you the ability to sew incredibly sharp points and unique shapes that aren't always possible with traditional piecing. Once you've learned the basics, you'll find plenty of great inspiration for creating your quilts. Wanda Earley is our paper piecing diva and she'll be teaching both Introduction to Paper Piecing (10/28/18) and Intermediate Paper Piecing (11/11/18) this fall.

Fabric Dyeing/Painting, a class that gets offered only once or twice a year and usually fills up, is back on the schedule for 10/27/2018.

If you missed out on Patty Murphy's class that teaches how to sew hexigons by machine then you'll want to be in her Hexies, Machine Pieced on 11/10/2018.

If you want to learn all about the hand quilting process so that you can tackle hand quilting a quilt top you have made, then sheila Blair's Hand Quilting class is perfect for you on 11/03/2018. She offers up so much information on all options of hand quilting and the supplies needed and has all kinds of things set up for you to try out.

If you want to learn how to knit, the best option is to sign up to come to one of our Sit & Knits and Sandra will get you started and sit with you while you get comfortable knitting. Then she can help you pick a project to make and help you get started and help you learn how to spot your mistakes and how to fix them once you've found them. If you would like to learn to crochet, please email us and we will pull a class together around dates that work for you.

FreeSpirit Fabrics is hosting a "Block Party" and  the company has asked us to collect 12" x 12" blocks to "help enrich our community with special quilts." They've even published the book FreeSpirit Block Party with blocks designed by some of their fabric designers including Kaffe Fassett, Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Tula Pink and several others. You can pre-order your book here. All proceeds from the book go to Project Night Night, providing free night packages to homeless youth. We will be collecting our blocks to go to Quilts for Kids in our greater Atlanta area. Join us for a Block Party sew-in on Saturday, 11/24/18, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. We'll have our classroom available all day for working on blocks with snacks and small gifts for pre-registered participants. Come for a couple of hours or join us for the full day!

Ready to learn something new and crafty? Check out our calendar for all the class opportunities at IQF&Y! We also have several teachers who can schedule private lessons for sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet. Email us for more information.

Please note: We have added a $1 charge for all our Sit & Knit sessions so that we may be able to collect a list of who will be coming ahead of time (the system won't let us take sign-ups for free) and that way we can let you know if something happens to prevent us having a teacher therePlease do register for the specific session you want to come to, to let us know if you will be joining.
