Oct. 29, 2018

There is still plenty of time before the holidays to learn a new technique and we have lots of fun classes to help you do just that. Not only do we have three great classes coming up this weekend as well as quite a few other opportunities to learn with our talented teachers at IQF&Y this fall.

This weekend kicks off with a fantastic Fabric Painting/Dyeing class from 10 am-4 pm Saturday that will help you figure out how to design your own fabric. Casey Green can show you how to start with a blank piece of fabric and create a beautiful piece of art. She'll even give you strategies for transforming an ugly piece from your stash into a piece you love!

On Sunday we have two great classes. The fabulous Wanda Earley will be teaching her Introduction to Paper Piecing class. Wanda is the most patient, kind person and the perfect teacher for the slightly tricky foundation paper-piecing method. Patty Murphy, author of Piecing Makeover, is teaching her Quilting Studio class: Bring in a pattern of your choosing and get expert help on piecing it. Patty can help with all kinds of techniques so this class is perfect for tackling something new.

Next weekend we have our first Hand Embroidery 102, where Wanda Earley will lead you through fabric tinting (if you choose) and an expanded set of embroidery stitches to round out your hand-embroidery repertoire. If you would like to learn all about hand-quilting, sign up for Sheila Blair's Hand Quilting class. You cannot get a more intensive introduction to hand-quilting than Shelia teaches.

Later in November we have a machine-pieced hexagon class, perfect for anyone who wants to sew hexagons without going the English paper piecing route. Hexies, Machine Pieced is also another way to grab some fabulous hands-on technique lessons from Patty Murphy. Wanda Earley continues her foundation paper piecing series with Intermediate Paper Piecing, which introduces you sewing curves. If hand work is more your speed, Mary Lou Mojonnier will be teaching her Wildflower Bouquet EPP class which is made using the traditional English paper piecing hand work method.

If you are around on Thanksgiving weekend, come on in to sew on some blocks in the FreeSpirit Block Party Sew Day. FreeSpirit Fabrics put together a book of block patterns designed by their fabric designers called FreeSpirit Block Party and they are calling on folks to make blocks for charity quilts. We are collecting blocks to be put into Quilts for Kids (we're a drop-off site for the group).

    I
nterested in a more one-on-one experience? We also have several teachers who can schedule private lessons for sewing, quilting, knitting and crochet. Email us for more information.

Our weekly sit-and-stitch sessions are a great way to catch up on your handwork projects, whether fabric or yarn, with other stitchers. We host two Sit & Knit sessions each week, one from 5-8 pm on Tuesdays and the other from 10 am-1 pm on Thursdays. Plus we host a Saturday session every other week from 10 am-1 p. (the next is 11/3/18). Come hang out every Friday for our fabric Sit & Stitch from 11 am-2 pm.

     Please note:
We have added a $1 charge for all our Sit & Knit sessions so that we may be able to collect a list of who will be coming ahead of time (the system won't let us take sign-ups for free) and that way we can let you know if something happens to prevent us having a teacher therePlease do register for the specific session you want to come to, to let us know if you will be joining.

If you want to stay in the know about the latest and greatest at IQF&Y, be sure to "like" and follow our
Facebook page. It's the best way to stay in the loop!

     Happy stitching,

     Sarah & the IQF&Y crew!

We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. We are happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.
