Jan. 16, 2019

We can't help but hurt for the federal government employees affected by the shutdown. This is not just something happening in our nation's capital: More than 137,000 of the furloughed employees are here in Georgia. If you are among those furloughed, we'd like to extend an invitation to join us for open sewing hours in our classroom during the week or take part in one of our weekly sit-and-knit/crochet sessions at no charge. Just email us to reserve your spot. You're welcome to bring in projects of your own or use our fabric we've collected and make blocks for our Quilts for Kids drive.

We are also collecting food donations for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which distributes items to a variety of local organizations that provide food to those in need -- including furloughed government employees. You can receive points on your IQF&Y rewards account for each item you bring in or for each dollar donated to our ACFB campaign page. Visit the ACFB website to see a list of needed items.

Have you tuned into Tidying Up with Marie Kondo? Count us among the many who've been cleaning and organizing after watching the hit Netflix show. If your craft room makeover has you ready to re-home fabric, yarn and other supplies that no longer speak to you, you're in luck! We're hosting a Super Crafty Classroom Sale from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, 2/9/2019, and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, 2/10/2019. Here's the scoop:

    * Reserve a 2' x 4' table for 10% of your sales or $20 (whichever is greater) with a $20 deposit, which is applied to your fee. Additional tables available for $20 each. Please follow link below to register for a table.

    * Drop off your pre-tagged sale items from 2/5-2/8/19 for us to sell for 30% of your sales. Please follow email link below to register for consignment sale.

    * Want us to price and sell it? Drop off between 1/25-2/5/19 and we'll split the sales 50/50. Please follow email link below to register for consignment sale.

    * You may sell fabric, kits, patterns and yarn (must be sealed in a zip-top bag). No fabric yardage may be cut to order.

Spaces are limited. Reserve your spot by clicking the link or email us if you'd like to do one of the consignment options!

Our Rudbeckia Hat KAL (knit along) continues through January but we've already got plans for another KAL: The For Fox Sake Sweater by Maxim Cyr. Mary has been itching to cast on this fun Fair Isle sweater and she's been playing around with some of our new Anzula Cricket yarn to make it. If you're interested in knitting along with her, you can save 10 percent on your sweater yarn purchase of in stock yarn to make it. The FFSSKAL won't start until the end of February, so you have time to plan -- but stop in soon for the best selection of sweater quantities. If you can't find something in stock, we will work to place a special order of either the Cricket or the Wonderland Yarns Mad Hatter but you'll need to get orders in quickly to make sure it's here in time to cast on.

Save the dates! We're taking IQF&Y on the road and returning as vendors at QuiltCon in Nashville Feb. 21-24. A month later, we'll be taking part in the 20th annual Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop, March 21-23 (please note the date change from our previous newsletter). We can't wait to see you!

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Please note: We have added a $1 charge for all our Sit & Knit sessions so that we may be able to collect a list of who will be coming ahead of time (the system won't let us take sign-ups for free) and that way we can let you know if something happens to prevent us having a teacher there. Please do register for the specific session you want to come to, to let us know if you will be joining.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday, 5-8 pm $1
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting. Please sign up to let us know you will be at the sit & knit.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)

Crochet 101

Knitting 101
Thursday, 1/24/19, noon-1:30 pm $40
Ready to learn how to knit or just need a refresher? Our Knitting 101 class is just what you need! We'll cover the long-tail cast on plus the knit stitch and talk about choosing needles and yarn, continental vs English and beginner projects to tackle. Class fee includes yarn and knitting needles.

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. We are also happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.

COUPONS
We have our IQ loyalty program, which is good for 20% off all regularly priced merchandise. Since launching our new computerized point-of-sale system, we are changing from paper cards to an electronic rewards system. No more forgetting your cards at home! We are happy to add your existing IQ cards to our system; just bring them in with your name and email address written on them.

We do occasionally give out coupons during shop hop and other special events like quilt shows. Coupons cannot be used on special orders or sale items, cannot be combined and there are no rain checks.
