Jan. 31, 2019

You may have heard that there's a major sporting event going on in downtown Atlanta this weekend, bringing up to 1 million visitors who love football (and maybe some crafting, too). As the only quilt shop inside the Perimeter (and less than 10 miles from Downtown), we are looking forward to meeting folks who've come to cheer on their team.

Whether or not the big game is in your plans for this weekend, we think you'll love our big Quarter Back Sale going on now through Sunday, 2/3/19! Get 3 yards or more from the same bolt and save 25%. It's more than just a great time to grab a back for a recently finished top or a project you're already working on (or maybe just planning). It's also perfect for getting a focus fabric or border, as well as fabric for that garment you've been just itching to sew!

In honor of this "super" weekend, we want to see your selfies! Stop in between now and the end of the day on Sunday, 2/3/19, and snap a selfie in front of your favorite quilt, fabric, yarn, etc. inside the shop, then upload it to social media (Instagram works best), tag us (@intownquilters) and use the hashtag #IQFYSuperSelfie. We'll be randomly choosing winners who will receive super prizes!

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Fall 2018 Kaffe Fassett Collective line! The fabrics are due in February and we can't wait to play with them. It's always fun to mix and match with the fabrics designed by Kaffe, Brandon Mably and Philip Jacobs. They just inspire us so much and we know they'll inspire you, too. We've got the fabrics available for pre-order on our site and they will ship once we've received the bolts. Order now to make sure you get your favorites (we've already had lots of interest in those new Feathers)!

Our point-of-sale system now emails reminders when your items are ready for pick up after ordering via our website. It's a fun new feature, especially since we didn't know about it until customers starting calling and emailing to let us know they'd already picked up their items! We think we've got all the orders up to date but if you do get a reminder and you know you've picked it up, please just hit "reply" and let us know you've gotten it and we'll update the order status.

IQF&Y is the place to be this winter, whether you want to learn with fabric or yarn. We've got some great classes coming up and are adding even more for the coming months. Register now for these classes (scroll down to the Classes section for more information):

 Quilting/Sewing Classes

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month (next date 2/2/19), 9:30 am-1 pm $15

This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet on the 1st Saturday from 9:30am-1pm. $90 for the year or $15 per month if you would like to pay monthly

Paper Piecing 102
Saturday, 2/9/19, 10 am-1 pm $60
Take your paper piecing knowledge to the next level with Paper Piecing 102 (formerly Intermediate Paper Piecing). You'll learn to paper piece more advanced blocks and sew curved pieces. Wanda will give you lots of tips and hints to make your paper piecing easier. Must have basic knowledge of paper piecing and/or have taken the Paper Piecing 101 class. Taught by Wanda Earley.

Sewing 101

Whether you've never sewn before or just need a refresher because you haven't sewn in years, our Sewing 101 class will get you stitching in no time! This class covers all the basics including how to thread your sewing machine (including how to wind a bobbin), sewing terminology, essential tools, how to read a pattern and more. You'll leave the class with a small, finished project and an enthusiasm for your new hobby! Taught by Mary Abreu.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, 2/14, 2/28, 3/7 & 3/28, 9:30am-1:30 pm $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class (formerly Beginning Quilt Making) will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver (weekday sessions). Three student minimum.

Dress No. 2
Saturdays, 3/16 & 3/23/19, 1-5 pm $175
Join Chrissy Weeks to make Dress No. 2 from 100 Acts of Sewing in a two-part class.
Our goal is a flattering and comfortable fit via making a muslin and then constructing the final garment in your choice of fabrics. You will enjoy having this simple but versatile garment as part of your Spring wardrobe. Note: This class is a prerequisite for our Dress No. 2 hacking class later this spring.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Please note: We have added a $1 charge for all our Sit & Knit sessions so that we may be able to collect a list of who will be coming ahead of time (the system won't let us take sign-ups for free) and that way we can let you know if something happens to prevent us having a teacher there. Please do register for the specific session you want to come to, to let us know if you will be joining.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday, 5-8 pm $1
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting. Please sign up to let us know you will be at the sit & knit.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Thursdays, 10 am-1 pm $1
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every other Saturday, 10 am-1 pm (next date: 1/26/2019) $1
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Sweater Knit-along
Sunday, 1/27/19 (more dates to come), 1-4 pm
Join our "Secret Sweater Stitching Society*" on the fourth Sunday of the month to hang out with other sweater knitters! (*It's not really a secret.)

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. We are also happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.

COUPONS
We have our IQ loyalty program, which is good for 20% off all regularly priced merchandise. Since launching our new computerized point-of-sale system, we are changing from paper cards to an electronic rewards system. No more forgetting your cards at home! We are happy to add your existing IQ cards to our system; just bring them in with your name and email address written on them.

We do occasionally give out coupons during shop hop and other special events like quilt shows. Coupons cannot be used on special orders or sale items, cannot be combined and there are no rain checks.
