 Quilting/Sewing Classes

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 11 am-1 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month (next date 4/6/19), 9:30 am-1 pm $15
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. English paper piecing is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet on the 1st Saturday from 9:30am-1pm. $90 for the year or $15 per month if you would like to pay monthly.

Machine Quilting 101
Saturday, 3/30/19, 10am-1 pm $80
This is a hands-on class to introduce the basics of machine quilting. You will learn several types of machine quilting: straight stitch, in the ditch, and a bit of free motion. Concepts discussed include selecting the design and thread to complement the quilt. Book required and included in class fee: Machine Quilting by Sue Nickels. Taught by Taffy McLaughlin. Class does not cover construction of a quilt top.

Sewing Studio
Sunday, 3/31/19, noon-4 pm $70
Ready to tackle a new sewing challenge? Bring the clothing or purse pattern of your choice (with all the supplies listed on the back of the pattern) and our instructor will help you from start to finish. Get help choosing the proper size, cutting, construction and finishing techniques. Given the individualized nature of this class, class size is limited to four students. Taught by Mary Abreu. One spot left!

Quiltmaking 101
Saturdays, 4/13, 4/27, 5/11 & 6/1, 12:30-4:30 pm $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class (formerly Beginning Quilt Making) will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver (weekday sessions) and David Bellevue (weekend sessions). Three student minimum.

Hacking Dress No. 2
Saturday, 4/13/19, 1-5 pm $70
Want to up your game and make some modifications to Dress No. 2? Add some sassy side gussets, in-seam pockets rather than patch, placket and buttons down the front or back? In this session we will take your personalized pattern and really make it yours. Bring ideas and Chrissy will help you work through making your changes to your flat pattern and work though testing them. You will leave class with a new muslin with your modifications.
Students must have taken our Dress No. 2 fitting class or have intermediate dress-making skills. We will not be covering the basics of making this garment. Taught by Chrissy Weeks.

Sewing 101
Sunday, 4/14/19, 12:30-4 pm $70
Whether you've never sewn before or just need a refresher because you haven't sewn in years, our Sewing 101 class will get you stitching in no time! This class covers all the basics including how to thread your sewing machine (including how to wind a bobbin), sewing terminology, essential tools, how to read a pattern and more. You'll leave the class with a small, finished project and an enthusiasm for your new hobby! Taught by Mary Abreu.

Fabric Painting & Dyeing
Saturday, 5/25/19, 10 am-4 pm, $100
This is a one-day workshop where you will learn how use the various kinds of fabric paints commercially available. It is for all levels of artistic skill. If you don’t feel you have confidence in drawing or painting, it doesn’t matter in this class, you will have a great time and go home with some very beautiful creative fabrics. It’s fabric-making art camp! Additional $10 materials fee (cash only) paid to teacher on the day of the class. Taught by Casey Green.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Please note: We have added a $1 charge for all our Sit & Knit sessions so that we may be able to collect a list of who will be coming ahead of time (the system won't let us take sign-ups for free) and that way we can let you know if something happens to prevent us having a teacher there. Please do register for the specific session you want to come to, to let us know if you will be joining.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)

Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting. Please sign up to let us know you will be at the sit & knit.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every other Saturday, 10 am-1 pm (next date: 4/6/2019) $1

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. We are also happy to set up a class for you though or private lessons that work better for your schedule. Email us to let us know your wishes.

COUPONS
