May 30, 2019

The temps may be on the rise outside but it's cool and happy inside IQF&Y! Beat the heat by taking part in one of our upcoming classes. We've got some fun ones on the calendar, including a few that will help you sew some great items for yourself or someone else. They'd even be great options for kids who want to do some sewing over the summer break! We've even got a few before Father's Day, which you could use to make some handmade gifts, including our Magic Pillowcase class on Friday, 6/7, Bow Tie class on Tuesday, 6/11, or Boxers/PJ Shorts class on Sunday, 6/9.

New fabric always makes us smile and our newest boxes from Robert Kaufman Fabric elicited plenty of grins. Some of our favorite batiks are from that company and the Round and Around Artisan Batiks are now exception. Beautiful, saturated colors and lots of organic movement mean these pieces work well whether you chop them up or use them big and bold. If Asian-inspired prints are your style, you won't want to miss Imperial Collection 15. It's filled with striking prints and a rich palette of reds, creams, blacks, blues and golds.

If you've got a wee one in need of a quilt, you won't want to miss Windham's new line, My Imagination, by Clare Therese Gray. A watercolor wash of animals and objects accompany corresponding letters on the show-stopping panel. The coordinating fabrics are just darling with bees, letters, flowers and more. Start with the panel and add your favorites for a quick quilt that's sure to be a hit!

It's almost time for the Kaffetastic Rainbow Star Quiltalong to start and we can't wait. Do you have your fabric and supplies to take part in this summer event, which kicks off Monday, 6/3?  We have a couple of the Sunset kits left, as well as two of the Bold kits. Get yours now and get ready for a summer full of Kaffe sewing fun!

Next week (June 6-8) is this year's Georgia Celebrates Quilts, the East Cobb Quilters' Guild 17th Biennial Quilt Show. Join us and all our participating quilters at this fantastic show! The quilts on display are always inspiring and must be seen in person to really get the full experience. The show takes place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily at the Cobb County Civic Center.

We've got some other great classes coming up, too, whether you want to learn how to sew, create a one-of-a-kind fabric with paint and dye, learn EQ8 software, or spend some time knocking out those UFOs. Register now for these classes (scroll down to the Classes section for more information):

KAFFETASTIC QUILTALONG

Are you ready for the Kaffetastic Rainbow Star Quilt Along, which kicks off in a couple of weeks? We were able to get more fabric to make a few more Bold kits and have a few Sunset left, too. Click here to see the detailed list of the fabrics included in the Bold or Sunset kits that you can use in any way you choose. The Sunset kit includes two new Aboriginal Dot colors, Stone and Denim, that are not out to the general public yet!

There will be weekly Sunday sewing days to help you make regular progress with the goal of finishing a quilt top (or two) this summer. We plan to try to have a day to cut out your fabric on June 2nd, too, so you can be ready to sew when the QAL kicks off the following week.

Participants who purchase a kit from us get some great swag (while supplies last) and a discount on all Kaffe Fassett (or whatever type of fabric you choose for your alternate kit) products for the duration of the QAL, as well as weekly finisher prizes. Purchase
your kit now! Come see us or call us to discuss alternate fabric options.

CLASSES

 Quilting/Sewing Classes

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 11 am-1 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Bring your machine and supplies to our classroom space and work on your sewing and quilting projects.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month (next date 6/1/19), 9:30 am-1 pm $15
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. English paper piecing is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. This group will meet on the 1st Saturday from 9:30am-1pm. $90 for the year or $15 per month if you would like to pay monthly.

Magic Pillowcase
Friday, 6/7/19, 9:30-11 am, $15
Craft a quick, personalized pillowcase in just an hour. Makes a great gift for anyone on your list! Taught by IQ staff.

Boxer/PJ Shorts
Sunday, 6/9/2019, noon-3 pm, $30
Make a pair of boxers of PJ shorts for you or someone else! Elastic waist for a comfortable fit. Taught by Chrissy Weeks.

Bow Tie
Tuesday, 6/11/19, noon-1:30 pm, $15
Sew a fabric bow tie for yourself or to give someone else. It's a great small project that can be personalized in so many ways. $1 supply fee for bow tie hardware payable to teacher on day of class. Taught by Kristie Fields.

EQ8
Saturday, 6/15/19, 2-3:30 pm, $45
Learn how to use EQ8, the industry's leading quilt design software program. Bring your laptop with EQ8 installed and your notebook and Sarah Oliver will give you the tools you need to begin using this software.

UFO Sew Day
Sunday, 6/23/19, 10 am-4 pm, $20
Why not spend a day tackling those quilt UFOs that never seem to make it to the top of your to-do list? We'll have a teacher on hand from 10 am-noon to answer questions and help you get started on a quilt pattern that you're having a hard time digging into or just be a cheerleader for you to get lots accomplished and help shorten your quilting UFO list. Then you can stay and sit and sew until 4 pm, with other folks trying to get a lot done, too. The teacher will be working upstairs for those questions that pop-up after noon. Taught by Pogo Grant or Sandy Stites.

Fabric Painting & Dyeing
Saturday, 7/13/19, 10 am-4 pm, $100 date change!
Have you ever wished you had a certain fabric for a project and just could not find something that matched your vision? This class is a great way to learn how to alter fabric (you can bring an ugly piece from your stash to work on) to create a different piece that works for you. Don't miss an opportunity to learn from Casey Green, as she is so talented with this art form. She spends hours prepping the class for you and has the classroom filled with all kinds of supplies for you to play with to help you decide which supplies and processes you like the best and want to explore further. Additional $10 materials fee (cash only) paid to teacher on the day of the class. Taught by Casey Green.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every other Saturday, 10 am-1 pm (next date: 6/1/2019)

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

COUPONS
Our IQF&Y loyalty program earns you points towards a 20% off reward good on all in-stock, regularly price merchandise. Best of all, it's all done electronically -- no more paper cards to keep up with! Still have one of our old paper IQ cards? We are happy to add your existing IQ cards to our system; just bring them in with your name and email address written on them.

We do occasionally give out coupons during shop hop and other special events like quilt shows. Coupons cannot be used on special orders or sale items, cannot be combined and there are no rain checks.
