Oct. 1, 2019

It's officially October and the hot, sunny days of summer seem to be sticking around. We're taking our cues from the calendar and indulging in some seasonally-appropriate crafting since cooler weather and gift-giving holidays will be here before we know it. Our shop calendar is filling up with classes, clubs and lots of other fun activities that will surely get you in a crafty state of mind! If that's not enough, we've got lots of new fabric and yarn in store that will entice you to get stitching.

We have just secured our next guest knitting teacher and we think you're going to love him! Louis Boria of Brooklyn Boy Knits turned his love of yarn crafting into a thriving knitwear business in Brooklyn but it wasn't until a photo of him knitting on the subway went viral that things really took off, turning Louis into one of the rising stars of the fiber arts world. Louis uses his craft for good, including the Hats Not Hate program which aims to eliminate bullying in schools. He is one of the first members of the Vogue Knitting Diversity Advisory Council and a strong supporter of encouraging kids to craft. He has been profiled by the New York Daily News, Univision and Reuters, among others, and his TEDx Talk, "Making the Most of Your Moment" has been viewed thousands of times since its July debut. Louis will be at IQF&Y Saturday and Sunday, 11/9 and 11/10/2019, for a lecturetwo knitting classes and a kids' fiber workshop (click the links or scroll down to read all the class details). Louis comes highly recommended by previous students and we can't wait to learn from him. Spaces are limited and we expect them to fill quickly, so sign up early or you might miss out!

The hotly anticipated new line from Tula Pink is due to arrive today and we can't wait. Monkey Wrench features fun fruit, punchy dots, technicolor bananas and a mischievous monkey to inspire your next quilting/sewing adventure. There are even three coordinating wide backing fabrics on FreeSpirit's luscious cotton sateen fabric. Mary is itching to get her hands on some for a funky banana dress!

If homespun fabrics are more your style, you won't want to miss the latest line from Minick & Simpson for Moda. Northport Silky Wovens include lots of plaids, checks and stripes in a palette that will suit many decors. We think it would be perfect for Quilts of Valor quilts, too. The texture of these fabrics is delightfully soft, thanks to the yarn-dyed weaving process.

Our range of Crescent fabrics by Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society is now complete with the arrival of the stunning Magic Unicorn Panel. This digitally printed panel includes a generously sized unicorn you can use as a quilt back or whole cloth quilt, coordinating pillow shams, a throw pillow panel (Mary used hers to make a tote bag), plus two smaller panels. We only have five left in stock -- get yours before they are gone!

The wonder that is Knitted Wit yarn has been restocked and expanded! We have so much love for this yarn and we know you do, too, since it flies off the shelves so quickly. Our shipment included both sock and worsted weights in both near-solids and variegated/speckled colorways. Stop by and we'll help you pick out the perfect colors for your next yarn project!

Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
