Oct. 22, 2019

You won't want to miss this weekend's Tandem Quilting Co. and Fall Open House event at IQF&Y. Our good friend Elizabeth Beck started Tandem Quilting Company to employ refugee women to help her meet the demand for T-shirt and memory quilts. Come to the shop Saturday, 10/26, to not only meet some of the Tandem Quilting Co. folks but watch demos and learn information on things you can find useful in your own quilting, prepping to have a quilt made for you and demonstrations on their favorite fiber arts, including weaving, crochet and even custom-made apparel.

In addition to the fabulous demos that will be happening, The Tandem Quilting Co. folks will have a pop-up shop selling their handmade quilted greeting cards, baby blankets, Christmas garlands, table runners and more.  Several of the Intown Quilters folks also will have quilts and other handmade items for sale. This is the perfect opportunity to grab up handmade items for yourself or as gifts for others. Quilter and crafter friends, please share this event with all of your fiber enthusiast friends who might like an opportunity to purchase handmade items!

The Tandem folks also will provide coffee and have a bake sale in the classroom. Don't miss this chance to meet some lovely women and learn some valuable information. Click over to our website for more details.

We followed up a banner week of new fabric with another week full of boxes and boxes of new arrivals, including more than 30 bolts of the new Ombre Bloom from Vanessa Christenson of V & Co. Her last ombre line with Moda was a big hit and we think you'll love this one just as much. Vanessa used sunprints made with actual flowers from her yard to create the designs on the collection, which shifts from dark to light to dark from selvage to selvage. It would look amazing used with any of her quilt patterns, which take advantage of the ombre effect.

The latest arrivals from Ruby Star Society were met with lots of excitement. Lindley Lawns are a delightfully soft line of 100% cotton lawns by Kim Kight, featuring a beautiful floral print. They'd be perfect for garments or even quilting projects! They arrived with the new Cotton Linen Canvas collaborative line by RSS, which has us dreaming up lots of great bag, home decor and quilting projects. The fabric is a 70% cotton/30% linen blend that has just the perfect texture and drape to complement the striking graphic prints.

Have you signed up for one of our events with Louis Boria of New York's Brooklyn Boy Knits? We're looking forward to his lecture, as well as the hands-on kids class and two knitting classes. Louis is one of the first members of the Vogue Knitting Diversity Advisory Council and a strong supporter of encouraging kids to craft. Louis will be at IQF&Y Saturday and Sunday, 11/9 and 11/10/2019, for a lecturetwo knitting classes and a kids' fiber workshop (click the links or scroll down to read all the class details). Spaces are filling up, so sign up soon or you might miss out!

It's a great time to learn with IQF&Y. Whether you want to explore collage style quilts or expand your wardrobe by sewing with knits, we've got you covered. Don't miss these great classes with more coming soon:

Mary is bringing her DragonCon Beaded Embroidery class to IQF&Y! We're looking at scheduling it either Saturday, 11/16, or 11/23. Let us know which date you prefer and watch for the sign up link in our next newsletter.

Stayed tuned for details on a possible class or two with Denyse Schmidt the weekend of Feb. 7-9, 2020. We are discussing full-day workshops that would be around $200 and possibly 1 or 2 half-day workshops that would be $100. Depending on interest, we may have workshops on Friday (we know this day is hard for some folks), Saturday and/or Sunday. Since this teaching event is not far off in the future, if you are positive you would take a class with Denyse, you can make a $25* deposit toward the class which will help us know if we can afford to bring her here in February. Send us an email if you are interested but on the fence, as well as if there is a particular class you would love to take with Denyse. There is discussion of an improv class or any number of pattern workshops from Free-Wheeling Single Girl to Cog & Wheel, and The Proverbial Quilt (read workshop descriptions here). If you love any of these (or another not listed), please send along your wishes. This is all the information we have until we know the interest level, so be sure to share your thoughts and watch for more details in the near future! (* Deposit is refundable if we do not schedule the class.)

    Happy stitching

Choose from one of Laura's pillow, mini or wall-hanging patterns for this class. Please check with us on pre-ordering any patterns we do not have in stock in time to have your pattern with you for the 1st class. Chrissy will talk you through various options for creating a scrappy, "arty" background for your applique, including the crazy quilt style method used in our Honey Bee quilt. You can decide which technique you want to try! If you have taken a collage class with Chrissy before, you are welcome to take this class to help you create your own collage without using one of Laura's patterns. Chrissy will also help you build your appliqué using an alternative technique that makes it even easier to create your collage. Check out some of the available pattern options here!

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
