So much yarn fun this weekend plus Day 6 of our 12 Days of Deals!

Dec. 6, 2019

For our yarn folks (or those who might want to become yarn folks), we have a full weekend of yarn! Don't miss a great new knitting class tomorrow morning that will get you going on learning simple cables! We will also have a fabulous yarn and knitting pattern designer (Cornelia Hamilton) in the shop Saturday and Sunday with her patterns, books, a few copies of the current issue of Vogue Knitting magazine (in which she is featured) and her gorgeous yarn for sale this weekend only. Cornelia and Sandra will be knitting at the big table upstairs Saturday starting at 10 am, then Cornelia will be sitting and knitting upstairs on Sunday with Sandra working the floor to help out, too. You'll even get a chance to see her Drop Stitch Openwork designs in person and sign up for her upcoming workshop where you can learn the technique from her. Oh...and we just got in a new shipment of Malabrigo Rasta and Rios!

For our fabric folks, we have gotten in so much fabric this week. We have 50 new colors of Kona solids, 32 bolts of Rashida Coleman-Hale's Speckled blender, as well as the Darlings line by Ruby Star Society, featuring some of the designers' favorite prints from previous lines (octopi, fried eggs, horses, hedgehogs, tigers and so much more!).

Our 12 Days of Deals continues today! We'll be sending an email each day, as well as posting on social media, with the link to that day's deal. Some of the items will be in stock and others will be available for pre-order. Deals will be up at 10 a.m. EST each day and stay "live" until 9 p.m. or until sold out, whichever comes first.

Today's deals: Felted wool pressing mats by The Gypsy Quilter! Once you've tried one of these mats, you'll wonder why you waited to get one. They are an ideal pressing surface, whether you're dealing with quilt blocks or garments (or even someone's handkerchiefs). The wool reflects the heat of your iron so it's like pressing on both sides at the same time. You can even use them for blocking your knitted items! We've got an amazing price for both the 17" x 24" mat and super-sized 21-5/8" x 58-5/8".  Click through to see the amazing discounts on these deals!

Don't miss out on your chance to make the Vancouver Fog Fingerless Gloves. This is a great introduction to cable knitting and Christine Cox has lots of great tips to make these one of your favorite accessories during cooler weather. They're made with a heavier weight of yarn, which means they'll knit up quickly (you could even make a pair to gift this holiday season).

Thanks to the generosity of Scott Fortunoff of Jaftex Corp.(Free Spirit Fabrics), we're also giving away a brand-new sewing machine with accessories plus some fabric and other items to someone who really needs it (not just an upgrade), whether they've experienced a significant loss or a major change in life circumstances or maybe a young person who is interested in sewing for college or a charity project and doesn't have a machine. We need your help to find the right person for this life-changing gift. Please email us your nominations for someone in the metro Atlanta area who would benefit from this giveaway and why you are nominating her/him.

Be sure to scroll down to the Classes section of the newsletter for all the great things we've got scheduled in the next few weeks plus into next year. Whether you need some quick gifts to whip up or want to expand your skills, we've got you covered!

Denyse Schmidt: Cog+Wheel

Spend the day sewing with Denyse in this class where you will make your own version of her Cog and Wheel quilt pattern! We'll discuss ways to organize your color/fabric selections, and how to vary the layout of blocks to individualize your quilt. I'll guide you through cutting and piecing, and we'll have time to discuss how quilts reflect our culture and historic context.

My version is an amalgamation of proverbs and fortunes from cookies, and the original pattern includes the entire alphabet so you can "customize, personalize, editorialize or memorialize. You can even (if you must) dispense advice. And they can sleep on it.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Vancouver Fog Fingerless Gloves
Saturdays, 12/7 & 12/14/2019, 9:30 am-noon, $60
Christine Cox will teach you the circular tubular cast on method and get you started on the cables 12/7. Come back on Saturday, 12/14/19 to work on the thumb gusset and binding off your project. You're welcome to visit any of our regular sit and knit with Sandra in between sessions.

Cornelia Hamilton: Drop Stitch Openwork
Saturday, 1/25/2020, 1:30-4:30 pm, $70
While the idea of knitting shaped holes with columns between them may sound exciting, the idea of weaving in ends does not! During this workshop, you will learn Cornelia Hamilton's new Dropstitch Openwork™ method for working columns between open geometric shapes in your knitting without breaking the yarn. You will have time to swatch different shapes and we will talk about how to use them in your knitting. A good understanding of basic knitting is all you need to have! Taught by Cornelia Hamilton.

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
