Jan. 14, 2020

Winter has finally arrived, reminding us why we love making quilts and knitted/crocheted blankets so much! Brrrr! It's the perfect time to hunker down at home and craft, whether with fabric or yarn. If you've been in a crafting lull since the end of the holidays, we're here to give you a jump start for 2020: Save 25% on select quilting kits through Sunday, 1/26/2020! Choose from Delilah, Golden Days, Urban Owls, Kaffe Sheep, Freida Fox, Loominous Rebel, Solid Star Power, Autumn PinesTattoo and Thunder and Lightning kits.

This is the restock you've been waiting for! We've just unboxed more than 20 bolts of some of our favorite Kaffe Fassett Collective prints, including Roman Glass, Paperweight and Aboriginal Dot. We love using these pieces in all kinds of quilting and sewing projects because they not only pull together a variety of prints but also work beautifully on their own.

We've also just added some of the sweetest nature pieces by Odile Bailloeul for FreeSpirit. The Enchanted Forest prints from her Land Art collection feature the most darling forest animals on lush backgrounds of rose pink and navy blue. We have both the full size and minis of these prints -- grab yours while you can!

When we announced our 2020 block-of-the-month programs last week, we inadvertently left out the photo of the Dimensions quilt. Oops! We'd hate for you to miss this quilt, so we've included the photo below. There are limited spots in the Dimensions block of the month as the fabric has been discontinued by Moda, so jump on in if you are interested. Read on for more information about the Dimensions BOM, as well as the rest of our 2020 programs:

* Sandy Stites will lead the Dimensions block of the month the 4th Saturday of the month at 9:30 am on the dot each month and you are welcome to stay and sew in the classroom based on classroom availability.

* Wanda Earley will lead the Elementz paper-pieced BOM on the 2nd Saturday of the month, meeting at 9:30 am on the dot each month and you are welcome to stay and sew in the classroom based on classroom availability.

* Mary Abreu will lead the Bakers Dozen program, meeting at noon on the 2nd Sunday of each month. You're welcome to stay and sew during the UFO sew day following the Bakers Dozen BOM meeting unless we have special events on that day. The photo below has some of the we have pulled for our sample made entirely of Ruby Star Society, which should be in the shop in a few weeks and Mary pulled a second set of mostly Tula Pink fabric that she will be making blocks from each month. Both options will be available as a a kit sold separately. There will be a limited number of each of the kits.

* Wheelhouse Medallion will kick off in June. We are still working on details for this, so watch for more information in the future.

It's a great time to dive into a class at IQF&Y, and our class calendar is brimming with opportunities. Denyse Schmidt: Cog+Wheel
Thursday, 2/6/2020, 10 am-4 pm, $200
Inspired by a quilt pattern from 1902, Cog and Wheel hurtles us back to the industrial age with a playfully bold graphic that rolls right on any bed. Spend the day sewing with Denyse in this class where you will make your own version of her Cog and Wheel quilt pattern! We'll discuss ways to organize your color/fabric selections, and how to vary the layout of blocks to individualize your quilt. I'll guide you through cutting and piecing, and we'll have time to discuss how quilts reflect our culture and historic context.

Denyse Schmidt: A Different Stripe
Friday, 2/7/2020, 10 am-4 pm, $200
Join Denyse for hands-on sewing class as she shows you how to improvise her A Different Stripe quilt pattern. Learn to trust your intuition, build your creative confidence, and streamline your patchwork process in this fast-paced, rut-busting workshop. Denyse Schmidt: The Proverbial Quilt
Sunday, 2/9/2020, 10 am-4 pm, $200
The Proverbial Quilt class will use Denyse's pattern inspired by early "talking" quilts. These quilts often featured quotes from the Bible, or commemorated public events. My version is an amalgamation of proverbs and fortunes from cookies, and the original pattern includes the entire alphabet so you can "customize, personalize, editorialize or memorialize. You can even (if you must) dispense advice. And they can sleep on it.

Painted Quilt Block with Regina Carter
Saturday, 2/22/2020, 1-5 pm, $100
Join Regina Carter for a fun class like nothing you've made before. Regina provides a quilted block that she'll then teach you to finish with paint sticks. It's a great way to create one-of-a-kind quilt art. All supplies are included in your class fee. Due to the nature of this class, registration will close Tuesday, 12/31/2019, and any class cancellations must be done by that date, as well.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
