Preorder Tula Pink HomeMade plus new fabric and more

Feb. 11, 2020

Love is in the air and we can't help but be inspired by all the beautiful fabric and yarn around the shop. The brand-new Kaffe Fassett shot cottons and woven stripes arrived in the middle of our classes with Denyse Schmidt, which led to a little rearranging in the shop (and lots of fabric petting). Sandy's already playing with a new shop sample!

Speaking of new arrivals ... last week also saw the arrival of the 2020 Sun Print by Alison Glass and they've been flying out the door. Alison designed three fabrics for this year's Sun Print, in a juicy palette of bright colors, as well as versatile neutrals.

Are you a fan of Tula Pink? Don't miss our Preorder section online, where we've added her upcoming HomeMade line. Tula's first sewing-themed line is out of this world and we can't wait for it to arrive in the shop next month. There are three colorways -- Morning, Noon and Night -- with coordinating wide backing fabrics and we've got yardage and bundles available for preorder

Two of our Block of the Month programs are starting soon but there's still time for you to sign up and take part. We designed these programs to be shorter than a traditional block-of-the-month program so you can get your quilt done faster and not lose motivation over the course of the year.

* Wanda Earley will lead the Elementz paper-pieced BOM on the 2nd Saturday of the month, meeting at 9:30 am on the dot each month. You are welcome to stay and sew in the classroom based on classroom availability.

* Mary Abreu will lead the
Bakers Dozen program, meeting at 9:30 am on the 2nd Saturday of each month (please note the day change). You're welcome to stay and sew in the classroom based on classroom availability. You can purchase one of the two kits we've put together for this program. We have a sample made entirely with Ruby Star Society fabrics (shown below) and Mary has pulled a set of mostly Tula Pink fabric that she's making now. Both options will be available as a kit (sold separately). There will be a limited number of each of the kits.

* Wheelhouse Medallion will kick off in June. We are still working on details for this, so watch for more information in the future.

There's still time to sign up for some of our February classes. Isn't it time you treated yourself? We're just a couple of weeks away from our next Fabric Painting and Dyeing class with Casey Green. Casey is a talented artist and will teach you lots of fun, useful ways to play with a variety of dyes and paints. Sarah Oliver is back with our EQ8 introductory class, a must for anyone interested in using the quilt design software. Our Sewing 101 class helps newcomers navigate the ins and outs of using a sewing machine. If you've always wanted to knit two socks at a time but were intimidated by Magic Loop, our Two-at-a-Time Socks, Toe Up! knitting class will help you conquer your first pair. Scroll down to the
Classes section of the newsletter for all the details and visit our calendar for the full schedule!

Painted Quilt Block with Regina Carter
Saturday, 2/22/2020, 1-5 pm, $100

EQ8
Thursday, 2/27/2020, 10 am-12:30 pm, $45

Sarah Oliver will get you started using this great software for designing quilts. Bring your laptop computer and a notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes. If you do not already own EQ8, the instructor will send you a link to install a trial version prior to the day of the class.Taught by Sarah Oliver.

Fabric Painting & Dyeing with Casey Green
Saturday, 2/29/2020, 10 am-4 pm, $100
Have you ever wished you had a certain fabric for a project and just could not find something that matched your vision? This class is a great way to learn how to alter fabric (you can bring an ugly piece from your stash to work on) to create a different piece that works for you. Don't miss an opportunity to learn from Casey Green, as she is so talented with this art form. She spends hours prepping the class for you and has the classroom filled with all kinds of supplies for you to play with to help you decide which supplies and processes you like the best and want to explore further. A $10 cash materials fee is due on the day of the class, payable to the teacher.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

Two-at-a-Time Socks, Toe Up!
Saturdays, 2/29, 3/21, 4/11 & 5/2/2020, 2-4 pm, $80
Avoid "second sock syndrome" by knitting your next pair of socks two-at-a-time on circular needles using the Magic Loop technique and DK weight yarn! We'll start toe up, which makes it even easier to check the fit of your socks as you go. The Winter Weekend sock pattern by Shannon Squire Designs is included in your class fee. This four-session class will start you off with casting on and the toe increases. Subsequent sessions will help you increase for the gusset, shape the heel and tips for a stretchy bind off for your sock cuff. Students should be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and working in the round. No prior sock knitting experience is required. Taught by Mary Abreu.
