March 6, 2020

Daylight Saving Time resumes on Sunday, 3/8/20, so don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed on Saturday so you don't lose an hour of shopping with us on Sunday! We'll be open regular hours that day (noon-4 pm) and there's still space in our UFO Sew Day that day. Please note that both of our Sunday UFO Sew Days this month start at noon.

The end of the week coincides with the end of the latest round of rain, so how about an End-the-Bolt Sale to celebrate? Through Sunday, 3/8/20, when you finish the bolt, you'll save 25% on the whole piece instead of our standard 15%. Wow! It's a great way to save on a quilt back, background fabric or even yardage you need for something Spring-y to wear!

We've got FreeSpirit Fat Quarter Fever! Shop our amazing selection of fat quarters from designers like Amy Butler, Tula Pink, Anna Maria Horner, Kathy Doughty, Kaffe Fassett and more. Each fat quarter is only $2.95 or get 10 for $25. Wow! We have a limited inventory of these special fat quarters (look for our Fat Quarter Fever bin  in the shop) and when they're gone, they're gone. As always, no additional discounts apply.

It's a great time of year for learning something with your friends at IQF&Y. We've got new dates for our weekday session of Quiltmaking 101 with Sarah Oliver. Sign up now and learn all the ins and outs while making your first quilt. Taffy is back in the classroom this month, so if you've been wanting to learn machine quilting, now is your chance! Don't miss out on Wanda Earley's upcoming hand embroidery class, where you'll learn the basics of the craft in a relaxed learning environment. Plus we have two fun block-of-the-month programs -- Elementz and Bakers Dozen --  kicking off Saturday, 3/14/20, that will breakdown making a quilt in smaller chunks over a few months. We even have fabric kits (one with Ruby Star Society, the other mostly Tula Pink) for the Bakers Dozen to take the stress out of planning your quilt. Invest in your interests in March! Scroll down to the Classes section of the newsletter for all the details and visit our calendar for the full schedule!

We, like many of our customers, have been watching the news about the spread of COVID-19 (the coronavirus), which now has two confirmed cases in our area. We keep hearing about cases of the virus that are severe enough to require hospitalization, but apparently it is very likely to have a mild case, much like a cold, that would not make someone feel very ill at all. We ask that if you are sick (whether it be a cold, flu, stomach bug, or even suspect you may have been exposed to coronavirus) that you please refrain from visiting the shop to help limit the spread of any illness. Illnesses that seem minor to many of us can be far more dangerous to a small percentage of the population and we can all do our part to reduce exposure risks by staying home when we're sick. We are always happy to get things in the mail to you or maybe even delivered (we have used Uber to deliver things before) if there is something you really need while recuperating at home.

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

Paper Piecing UFO Sew Day
Wednesday, 3/11/20, 10am-4 pm
Why not spend a day tackling those paper piecing (or any other quilt related) UFOs that never seem to make it to the top of your to-do list? We'll have a teacher (Wanda Earley) on hand from 10 am-1 pm to answer questions and help you get started on a quilt pattern that you're having a hard time digging into or just be a cheerleader for you to get lots accomplished and help shorten your quilting UFO list. You're welcome to stay and work the rest of the session and make progress on your UFOS!

Hand Embroidery 101
Saturday, 3/21/20, 1:30-4:30 pm, $60
Have you been admiring all the patterns available that incorporate embroidery designs into quilting, bags, kitchen accessories, etc? Patterns from designers like Crabapple Hill and This and That are bringing us a new, fresh approach to using embroidery in our quilting and sewing. In this class, we will discuss transfer techniques, fabric choices, and basic embroidery to get you ready to make your own project. Taught by Wanda Earley.

Machine Quilting 101
Saturday, 3/21/20, 1:30-4:30 pm, $80
This is a hands-on class to introduce the basics of machine quilting. You will learn several types of machine quilting: straight stitch, in the ditch, and a bit of free motion. Concepts discussed include selecting the design and thread to complement the quilt. Class does not cover construction of a quilt top. Book included in class fee: Machine Quilting with Style by Christa Watson. Taught by Taffy McLaughlin.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, 4/9, 4/23, 5/7 & 5/21/20, 10am-2 pm, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
