An important message from your friends at Intown Quilters Fabric & Yarn

March 13, 2020

We have been glued to the news, as we are sure you have, as COVID-19 (also called the coronavirus) has led to school closures and other changes in our area. Georgia now has reported its first coronavirus-related death. State and local government officials are taking to heart the guidance of doctors and scientists with the CDC and other health organizations and encouraging employees to work from home and for elderly people and those with weakened immune systems to avoid large crowds.

The health and safety of our coworkers, families, and customers is of utmost importance to us. We want to let you know what we are doing to control the spread of the coronavirus and our plans for the time being:

    * We are vigilantly cleaning commonly touched surfaces like door knobs and cutting tools throughout the day and keeping our restrooms stocked with disposable paper towels and hand soap so coworkers and customers alike can thoroughly wash their hands.

    * All of our coworkers have been asked to stay home if they are not feeling well instead of coming to the shop.

    * We respectfully ask our customers who may be sick (even if you think it is just allergies) to please stay home and focus on getting well. We have several employees who are in the highest risk group so your help in keeping them safe is much appreciated.

    * Our classes and sit-and-stitch times will continue to be offered as scheduled, with the exception of our upcoming Machine Quilting 101 (we will be emailing students who have already signed up for this class). If you have already paid for a class and do not feel comfortable or well enough to attend, we are happy to place a class credit on your account to use for a future session. We may need to reschedule a class based on teacher wellness but will notify you as soon as possible in that event.

    * You can continue to stop in and shop during regular business hours (Tuesday 9:30 am-8 pm, Wednesday-Saturday 9:30 am-5 pm; Sunday noon-4 pm). Several of our employees are in the highest risk group so we may not have a full staff if they choose to hunker down at home.

   * We know you may be avoiding public places and have your stashes to keep you occupied while you are at home. Our online store will remain open and we will be fulfilling orders and shipping a few times a week, and we hope you will shop there when you are in need of fabric, yarn, and other items. We are also offering car door delivery of your order if you would like to shop online or by phone. Just select the "pick up in store option" (website) or let us know when you call, then call us from your car when you arrive and one of us will bring your items out to you. We are happy to place your items in the trunk or on the back seat through the window, especially if you think you might be sick.

   * You can also help us out by purchasing a gift certificate (you can buy them online, in store, and by phone) to use once things settle down. We are giving you an extra 10% added to your gift certificate purchases through the end of March. We'll even email you your gift certificate code (please allow 24 hours -- we do this manually) so you can use it online.

We are taking this on a day-by-day basis and will post any changes to our social media (Facebook and Instagram), as well as through our newsletter. We remain committed to being your favorite quilt/yarn shop and hope you will continue to patronize the shop during this uncertain time.

In case you're wondering, the Tula Pink HomeMade and our first shipment of Berroco yarn both arrived as expected this week. They're just lovely and would make great projects to work on while you may be hanging out at home.

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

Hand Embroidery 101
Saturday, 3/21/20, 1:30-4:30 pm, $60
Have you been admiring all the patterns available that incorporate embroidery designs into quilting, bags, kitchen accessories, etc? Patterns from designers like Crabapple Hill and This and That are bringing us a new, fresh approach to using embroidery in our quilting and sewing. In this class, we will discuss transfer techniques, fabric choices, and basic embroidery to get you ready to make your own project. Taught by Wanda Earley.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, 4/9, 4/23, 5/7 & 5/21/20, 10am-2 pm, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.
