March 17, 2020

We continue to stay up-to-date on news related to the COVID-19 pandemic and want to let you know our latest plans at IQF&Y.

We will be open by appointment only between 10 am and 4 pm for the foreseeable future. This was not an easy decision to make, but we think it is the only responsible thing to do for our coworkers and customers. A few employees will be in the shop each day (for now), working on some deep cleaning and maybe even some reorganization, so that we can be on hand to process phone and online orders for pick up or quick shipping. We hope you will continue to shop with us via our website or phone (404-634-6924) and we will ship orders or even bring your order out to your car if you'd like to pick up but not come inside. We may even be able to deliver to you but this will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

We know that you really like the in-person experience of shopping with us and recognize that online and phone don't give you the same feedback. We are happy to offer personal shopping via FaceTime and text messaging. Just give us a call (404-634-6924) and we'll take care of you.

If you really want to come in and shop, please call us (404-634-6924) to make an appointment. Our goal is to limit the number of people in the shop at any given time. We will ask that you go straight to wash your hands in the bathroom when you come in and we will also pull the fabric bolts down for you to minimize the number of people touching the fabric. Consider it a full-service experience! Please do refrain from coming at all if you are feeling under the weather, even what you think might just be allergies. On a related note, our classes and sit-and-stitch times are on hold for the time being. We will be contacting students who have signed up for those classes regarding rescheduling at a future time.

Our batik fabrics are on sale on our website, and we have added several other things to the Sale page, too. You can shop for any of our other products online, too, including gift certificates. If the kids are in need of a project, we have some fun kits (both sewing and knitting) that include almost everything they'll need and we're always happy to pull together fabrics for making pillowcases, too.

We appreciate any way you can support the shop during this time of great uncertainty, in the hopes we will be able to cover our bills including employee paychecks and other monthly expenses that are common for small businesses.

Stay tuned for links to our virtual stitching groups we hope to launch soon, so you can stay in contact with us and each other, since we know that crafting together helps us through difficult times. We also have several Facebook groups where you can share progress you are making, ask advice or just chat with other IQ crafters.

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, 4/9, 4/23, 5/7 & 5/21/20, 10am-2 pm, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

CLUBS

Please note: All clubs are postponed for the time being.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month , 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. English paper piecing is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.

UFO Club with Wanda Earley
First Tuesday of the month, 4:30-7:30 pm Free
Come join our paper piecing teacher Wanda Earley as she leads a monthly UFO Club. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. Special focus on foundation paper piecing and hand embroidery but any UFO projects are welcome.

By Hand: The Art of Slow Quilting
Third Saturday of the month, 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting.  This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.
