March 24, 2020

We are into week 2 of social distancing to slow down the spread of Covid-19. We continue to evaluate our operating availability and schedule on a day-to-day basis due to the changing circumstances surrounding the pandemic. You can check for posts on social media (we are on Facebook and Instagram) to find out whether we are offering curbside pickup and the hours it will be available.

Mary and Kay will be in the shop today from 10 am-2 pm to take phone orders and hand over your items in the parking lot. We are working as quickly as we can to fulfill your orders. Please order by 1 pm for pick up today by 2 pm. any orders you might have waiting for you in the shop or would like to make. You can order by calling 404-634-6924 or order online. Any orders that come after 1 pm, we will do our best to fill the next day we are in the shop.

We know that you really like the in-person experience of shopping with us and recognize that online and phone don't give you the same feedback. We are happy to offer personal shopping via FaceTime (iPhones/iPads) or WhatsApp (Android) and text messaging although hours are short today so expect delays. Just give us a call (404-634-6924) and we'll take care of you.

We have created a GoFundMe fundraiser for supplies to sew fabric masks for local healthcare workers who are now asking for them as there is a shortage of the necessary medical equipment due to the virus outbreak. We know many of you are excited about working on face masks for health care workers and others. There is a private Facebook group for the Atlanta area where you can find lots of information about making them and where to get them to. We have sold out of our elastic and both our distributors are sold out, so for now we suggest you look for elastic online or make masks with ties, which we think are more likely to hold up to hot water washing, anyway. There are also some patterns that use 1" strips of knit (t-shirt) fabric as a substitute for the elastic. You can find patterns on YouTube or in the private Facebook group mentioned above. We have heard that flannel or sew-in nonwoven interfacing are good to use for filters in the pocket of the mask but you can make the actual cotton masks and donate them without a filter as filters are being donated separately, too.

We fell in love with new blossom print from Moda's Sakura Park line and we know you did, too, because we sold out of the turquoise version in less than 24 hours. Wow! We've reordered it, as well as additional colors of the print, including the just-received Blossom colorway. We have three colors in stock right now, all of them featuring a dogwood blossom, which reminds us so much of springtime in Atlanta. (They call it a cherry blossom, but we know better.)

Just a reminder, our classes and sit-and-stitch times are on hold for the time being. We will be contacting students who have signed up for those classes regarding rescheduling at a future time.

Sandra has worked out a way to have virtual craft time using https://zoom.us which is a free online platform for spending time together for things like virtual meetings and gatherings. Sandra's “trial run” of the first Virtual ”Crafting Alone, Together!” (formally known as ”Sit & Knit”) went really well.  It was great to connect in this time of separateness.  Sandra is reinstating our regularly scheduled Sit & Knit times, but of course ALL crafters are welcome to join our Virtual Get-Together.  Join us via the Zoom application, either by video or audio connection.  Follow us on Facebook.com/intownquilters to find the regularly scheduled times and for yarn folks join our Group on Ravelry, to continue yarn craft discussions.

Our batik fabrics are on sale on our website, and we have added several other things to the Sale page, too. You can shop for any of our other products online, too, including gift certificates. If the kids are in need of a project, we have some fun kits (both sewing and knitting) that include almost everything they'll need and we're always happy to pull together fabrics for making pillowcases, too.

We appreciate any way you can support the shop during this time of great uncertainty, in the hopes we will be able to cover our bills including employee paychecks and other monthly expenses that are common for small businesses.

Stay tuned for links to our virtual stitching groups we hope to launch soon, so you can stay in contact with us and each other, since we know that crafting together helps us through difficult times. We also have several Facebook groups where you can share progress you are making, ask advice or just chat with other IQ crafters.

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

CLUBS

Please note: All clubs are postponed for the time being.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month , 9:30 am-1 pm Free

UFO Club with Wanda Earley
First Tuesday of the month, 4:30-7:30 pm Free

By Hand: The Art of Slow Quilting
Third Saturday of the month, 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting.  This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.
