April 17, 2020

Today, 4/17 and Saturday the 18th, we plan to have someone in the shop from 10 am - 2pm and on Sunday 4/19 from 12-4 pm, to help you via phone, text, and even FaceTime if you'd like to see some fabrics that are in the shop. We are maintaining all appropriate physical distancing while we are working. We each have a phone in our pockets (no sharing of phones!) and sometimes we are on both lines, so if you do not get us on the first try, give it a few minutes and try again. We strongly encourage you to place online orders that we will be shipping out and delivering curbside (to your trunk or hatch) in front of the shop. Your online orders also help us to keep our social distancing as we each take the order sheets and fill. Phone calls add a little more chaos to the day, although we love talking to you all, as we miss our folks! Keep reading all the way down the email for a special deal and pretty things coming soon.

If you are unsure of what you want and want help trying to pick something, then please do call 404-634-6924, or even email to set up a one-on-one phone call appointment time, so we can work out the quickest and easiest way to help you, be it via emailed or texted photos or even video calling on cell phones. If you have trouble placing an order online, give the site a few minutes and see if you can continue. There are some known website issues with cell phones, tablets and Safari on Apple products, but often it just takes up to 5 or even 10 minutes for the pages to fully load.

We have just received some Kaffe Fassett Artisan batiks (perfect for making face masks) at a discount, which we are passing on to you on the Sale page of our website. We have also added quite a few other fabrics to the sale page, including some nice lightweight gauze fabrics that would make some fun new warm weather apparel. Another item added to the newsletter are some fun Fat Quarter bundles that would make great face masks and we will add some more items today so check that page frequently.

We're still eagerly awaiting our shipment of Anna Maria Horner's next fabric line Hindsight. It is due in next week, we hope (it has been delayed twice), and we are so excited to see it. This line is Sarah's favorite line to come out in a very long time!

We have been told that Free Spirit Fabrics will be giving us the entire pattern for the upcoming
Wheelhouse Medallion quilt, so that we can now provide you with an entire kit for the Wheelhouse Medallion quilt all at once, with no need to participate in a 5 month sew along. We have enough fabric on order to make a few more kits, so if you love this quilt as much as we do, get yours preordered now! We should have them ready to go in about 2 weeks and we will be putting together the entire kits for everyone who orders, including those who signed up for the 5 month program.

We know so many of our wonderful customers are frantically sewing face masks for healthcare workers and friends and family. We have read that batiks are a great fabric to use for fabric face masks and wanted to share that information with you. Knit fabric is also a great fabric to use for ties instead of elastic, although we hope to have elastic in later this week if your are wedded to elastic for your masks. Knit fabric does not have to be seamed, is soft for the ears and holds up to washing well. We have many batiks on our website to make it easy for you to find some. We have created a page on our website for Charity Projects and you can find lots of information about making face masks therePlease also share our GoFundMe fundraiser with your friends and family who might like to help out with masks but cannot help with the sewing of them. Our fundraiser is helping to pay for the fabric that we are providing to anyone who asks. You can click this link here and then it is easy from there to share the link with others. The funds raised cover the fabric we are cutting and giving away to those sewing masks for healthcare facilities and helps pay the employees who are busy cutting the fabric. We have been passing out fabric (over $4000 worth so far) like crazy!

We appreciate the support you've shown us during these uncertain times. Whether you are an essential worker during this crisis or doing your part to #stayhome, you are in our thoughts!

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

STITCH ALONG WITH IQF&Y

Please note: All social stitching times are occurring via Zoom for the time being.

Sandra has worked out a way to have virtual craft time using Zoom, which is a free, online platform for spending time together for things like virtual meetings and gatherings. You can sign up for our virtual Crafting Alone, Together! (formerly known as Sit & Knit) here. It is great to connect in this time of separateness. Sandra is reinstating our regularly scheduled Sit & Knit times, but inviting all crafters to join our virtual get together. Join us via the Zoom application, either by video or audio connection. You can join anywhere and anytime on a laptop, tablet or phone. Once you sign up here, you will be emailed the information for joining in.

All the in-store meeting times below are suspended until further notice:

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 10 am-1 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Open Sew
Weekdays (check Calendar for availability), 10 am-4 pm Free
Bring your machine and supplies to our classroom space and work on your sewing and quilting projects. If you see two days in a row listed, you are welcome to leave your things overnight for ease of sewing for two days, like a mini retreat.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday, 5-8 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Thursdays, 10 am-1 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
The 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10 am-1 pm
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Sandra's current shop KnitAlong, Norah's Vintage Afghan, with just a little bit of tweaking has made it possible for her to move it online. She's using Zoom for her weekly KnitAlong meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday mornings and the 2nd and 4th Sunday afternoons, and you sign up here or you can take part on your own during our ongoing virtual Crafting Alone, Together by signing up here. Once you have signed up, you will be emailed the information on how to join in. In addition, Sandra will be recording the instructions to set up each block in he Knit Companion App along with any tips she thinks will help.

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

Norah's Vintage Afghan
A virtual knitalong (for the time being)
