May 19, 2020

We've ordered lots of new fabrics to keep up with the demand for solid, batik and novelty fabrics we've been cutting and packing up for orders and we have a great Virtual Shop Hop event coming next week so keep reading below!

It's been fun to unbox the shipments live on Facebook with you! In case you missed Friday's unboxing, you can view it here (we keep them on our timeline since we know it's not possible for everyone to watch live). Timeless Treasures has some of our favorite batiks and fun prints, and this shipment was no exception (be sure to check out that cats on quilts print -- it's one  of our favorites). Check out all the new fabrics from Timeless Treasures here and the all our New Arrivals here! We hope to have more 1/4" elastic in the shop in the next few days so make sure you are following our Facebook and Instagram pages to see the announcement when it arrives.

We remain committed to helping our customers in the best virtual ways possible and also continue to bring in new merchandise for your fabric and yarn needs. We're at the shop this week from 10am-6 pm on Tuesday, 5/19, and 10am-2pm Wednesday-Saturday, 5/20-5/23, for curbside pickup and help via phone, text, and even FaceTime if you'd like to see some fabrics that are in the shop. We will be temporarily closed on Sundays and will let you know when that changes.

When you shop with us for curbside pickup, please allow us time to process and prepare your order for pick up. We know you're eager to get your items and we do our best to have them ready as soon as possible! We have a limited number of employees in the store and process transactions in the order they are received, which means it may take us a little time to get to yours. We will call you when it's ready for pick up, so please make sure the number you include with your order is correct and your voicemail box is not full. We also mark it ready for pick up in our system (in a perfect world, you will actually receive an email that lets you know it's ready). Please do not come to the shop before we've contacted you. If you have been notified your order is ready, please remain in your vehicle when you arrive at the shop. We miss getting to see you in the shop and we are doing our best to maintain safe distancing and sanitizing practices to keep our staff (and you) healthy.

Speaking of shopping virtually...we are putting together a Virtual Shop Hop that will include five shops from The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop (we will miss a few) and happens Tuesday-Saturday, 5/26- 5/30/2020 at 12:30 pm each day. Jump into your work early each day (or take a little vacation for shop hop) and settle in for a 30-45 minute visit with a different shop. There will be fun new things, specials, individual shop prize drawings and prize drawings for those who watch all five videos Tuesday through Saturday, so mark your calendars and get ready for a fun lunch hour with some fellow sewing and quilting peeps! You can even start a "watch party" with your friends and all watch together (from afar) to chat about what you like from each video. Visit The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop Facebook page and make sure you are following so as not to miss the videos each day.

Be sure to check out our new Berroco Yarn Drop Ship section on our website! You can purchase any Berroco yarn (even types we don't carry) and Berroco will drop ship it directly to you via USPS from their warehouse in Rhode Island. Each product has a link to the Berroco site so you can see the available colors. If you want a certain yarn, just order the number you want and then include your choice of colors in the notes section with your online order. This is a great way to get sweater quantities of yarn or try out a new yarn you've not been able to get your hands on! If you would like some in-stock yarn and some drop-ship yarn, please place two different orders, one for the Drop-Ship with shipping to your address and for In-Stock yarn you can choose curb-side pick up or shipping also, but it will help us keep things organized to have two different orders.

Have you heard about the Homemade Challenge featuring Tula Pink's latest line for FreeSpirit Fabrics? Make a 60" x 60" quilt using at least 80% fabrics from Tula's Homemade line and submit it for a chance at some amazing prizes, including having your quilt hang as part of a special exhibit at the 2021 Fall International Quilt Market and Festival! You have until 9/30/2020 to submit your entry for judging. Head to our website to grab the fabrics you need for your quilt today!

For information on making face masks, check out our
Charity Projects page. Please also share our GoFundMe fundraiser with your friends and family who might like to help out with masks but cannot help with the sewing of them. Our fundraiser is helping to pay for the fabric that we are providing to anyone who asks (over $5000 given away so far) and to supplement the pay for the shop employees during this time of limited work hours.

We appreciate the support you've shown us during these uncertain times. Whether you are an essential worker during this crisis or doing your part to #stayhome, you are in our thoughts!

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

STITCH ALONG WITH IQF&Y

Please note: All social stitching times are occurring via Zoom for the time being.

Sandra has worked out a way to have virtual craft time using Zoom, which is a free, online platform for spending time together for things like virtual meetings and gatherings. You can sign up for our virtual Crafting Alone, Together! (formerly known as Sit & Knit) here. It is great to connect in this time of separateness. Sandra is reinstating our regularly scheduled Sit & Knit times, but inviting all crafters to join our virtual get together. Join us via the Zoom application, either by video or audio connection. You can join anywhere and anytime on a laptop, tablet or phone. Once you sign up here, you will be emailed the information for joining in.

All the in-store meeting times below are suspended until further notice:

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 10 am-1 pm suspended for now
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Open Sew
Weekdays suspended for now
Bring your machine and supplies to our classroom space and work on your sewing and quilting projects. If you see two days in a row listed, you are welcome to leave your things overnight for ease of sewing for two days, like a mini retreat.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Thursdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
The 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Open Handcrafting
Sundays, noon-4 pm
Bring your handcrafts -- knitting, crocheting, EPP, hand applique, cross stitch, embroidery and more -- to work on at our spacious table among friends.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, To be determined, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

Norah's Vintage Afghan
A virtual knitalong (for the time being)
Our current shop knitalong, Norah's Vintage Afghan, with just a little bit of tweaking has moved online. Sandra is using Zoom for her weekly knitalong meetings. The regularly scheduled meetings are on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-4:40pm, and you sign up here or you can take part on your own during our ongoing virtual Crafting Alone, Together by signing up here. Once you have signed up, you will be emailed the information on how to join in. In addition, Sandra will provide instructions on the 1st and 3rd Sundays to set up each block in the Knit Companion App along with any tips she thinks will help. Led by Sandra Mazliah.

CLUBS

Please note: All clubs are postponed for the time being.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month , 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. English paper piecing is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. UFO Club with Wanda Earley
First Tuesday of the month, 4:30-7:30 pm Free
Come join our paper piecing teacher Wanda Earley as she leads a monthly UFO Club. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. Special focus on foundation paper piecing and hand embroidery but any UFO projects are welcome.

By Hand: The Art of Slow Quilting
Third Saturday of the month, 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting.  This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.
