May 28, 2020

The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop continues today, 5/28/2020, with our LIVE video as part of the first-ever virtual shop hop!

Hop into your workday early so you can take a nice lunch break at 12:30 pm to eat while visiting that day's featured shop at your computer or on a tablet or smartphone. Don't worry if you can't make it for the live video as each video will remain saved to the Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop Facebook page after it debuts!

   Participating shops
Tuesday, 5/26: Georgia Sewing & Quilting, Buford, GA (saved for viewing)
Wednesday, 5/27: The Cotton Farm, Roswell, GA (saved for viewing)
Thursday, 5/28: Intown Quilters Fabric & Yarn, Decatur, GA <--that's us!
Friday, 5/29: Cottontail Quilts, Kennesaw, GA
Saturday, 5/20: A Scarlet Thread, McDonough, GA

   How it works
   * In lieu of a passport and running around in traffic to visit the shops in person, you can now sit back and enjoy one video each day for 30-45 minutes. Make comments on the videos (in the comments section) to be eligible for each shop's individual prizes: a $50 and a $100 gift certificate (plus some other fun, little prizes). As you are watching, take note of something that grabs your attention. Maybe it's a quilt you saw or a notion or even what someone is wearing in the video. We'll ask you to share what caught your eye in a comment on a later post so you'll be eligible for the group prizes. (Don't worry! The videos will stay up so you can revisit them any time you'd like!)

   * Click here to visit the Facebook event page and then please click the "Interested" button in the event to make sure you receive reminders about the event so you don't miss out!

  * Get comfortable, grab your lunch, and pen and paper to take a few notes. You're ready to hop from shop to shop, all while staying safely in your home or office!

  * Log on to Facebook and visit the Great Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop page at 12:30 pm for the shop's introduction and explanations for how to enter to win some fabulous prize drawings plus that shop's featured items and specials.

  * Repeat daily through Saturday, 5/27-5/30/20, with the other four shops. Each store will be adding their own twist to the event, so enjoy the uniqueness of each shop!

  * If you see some thing you would LOVE to have, follow the shop's instructions to purchase it. Each shop will have different merchandise offered and each has a different way for making your purchases happen, whether calling in, sending an email, going to the shop's website or using "CommentSold." Listen carefully and watch for instructions posts from each shop ahead of time.

  * If you have questions, we will try to answer them as we go along but remember many of the items are limited in quantity and with a live sale you need to act quickly or you might miss out!

  * Please be patient with us as we work all of this out and just keep watching the Facebook event page and each shop's individual pages, if you prefer, for more details!

Don't forget that you can order online 24/7 and we can ship your order or you can opt for contactless curbside pick up! We're at the ship for curbside pick up and phone help this week from 10 am-6 pm Tuesday, 5/26, and 10 am-3 pm Wednesday-Saturday, 5/27-5/30. We are temporarily closed Sundays (until further notice) and continue to be closed on Mondays.

For information on making face masks, check out our
Charity Projects page. Please also share our GoFundMe fundraiser with your friends and family who might like to help out with masks but cannot help with the sewing of them. Our fundraiser is helping to pay for the fabric that we are providing to anyone who asks (over $5000 given away so far) and to supplement the pay for the shop employees during this time of limited work hours.

We appreciate the support you've shown us during these uncertain times. Whether you are an essential worker during this crisis or doing your part to #stayhome, you are in our thoughts!

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

STITCH ALONG WITH IQF&Y

Please note: All social stitching times are occurring via Zoom for the time being.

Sandra has worked out a way to have virtual craft time using Zoom, which is a free, online platform for spending time together for things like virtual meetings and gatherings. You can sign up for our virtual Crafting Alone, Together! (formerly known as Sit & Knit) here. It is great to connect in this time of separateness. Sandra is reinstating our regularly scheduled Sit & Knit times, but inviting all crafters to join our virtual get together. Join us via the Zoom application, either by video or audio connection. You can join anywhere and anytime on a laptop, tablet or phone. Once you sign up here, you will be emailed the information for joining in.

All the in-store meeting times below are suspended until further notice:

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 10 am-1 pm suspended for now
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Open Sew
Weekdays suspended for now
Bring your machine and supplies to our classroom space and work on your sewing and quilting projects. If you see two days in a row listed, you are welcome to leave your things overnight for ease of sewing for two days, like a mini retreat.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Thursdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
The 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Open Handcrafting
Sundays, noon-4 pm
Bring your handcrafts -- knitting, crocheting, EPP, hand applique, cross stitch, embroidery and more -- to work on at our spacious table among friends.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, To be determined, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

Norah's Vintage Afghan
A virtual knitalong (for the time being)
Our current shop knitalong, Norah's Vintage Afghan, with just a little bit of tweaking has moved online. Sandra is using Zoom for her weekly knitalong meetings. The regularly scheduled meetings are on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-4:40pm, and you sign up here or you can take part on your own during our ongoing virtual Crafting Alone, Together by signing up here. Once you have signed up, you will be emailed the information on how to join in. In addition, Sandra will provide instructions on the 1st and 3rd Sundays to set up each block in the Knit Companion App along with any tips she thinks will help. Led by Sandra Mazliah.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month , 9:30 am-1 pm Free

UFO Club with Wanda Earley
First Tuesday of the month, 4:30-7:30 pm Free
Come join our paper piecing teacher Wanda Earley as she leads a monthly UFO Club. By Hand: The Art of Slow Quilting
Third Saturday of the month, 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting.  This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.
