June 3, 2020

Well, it is amazing that we are into the month of June in 2020 already! Who would have thought that we would have faced the health pandemic we are still in the middle of and now the new spike in cases due to protests going on all over our country. Our hearts are with all who are suffering in any way, including all those at the hand of police and looter brutality and especially a few of our customers who have recently been hospitalized with Covid19. Just think, if we had been open to customers inside the shop, we might all have gotten sick by now, possibly spreading the illness to any of you who might have chosen to shop with us.

Due to the continued threat of this illness to certain groups and the new spikes in cases recently (240 new cases in the counties around us yesterday), we will continue to serve you through online and phone orders with continued curbside pick-up and shipping. We are back in the shop this week for curbside pick up and phone help. You can order online 24/7 and we can ship your order or you can opt for contactless curbside pick up! We will be manning the phones 10 am-3 pm the rest of the week through Saturday, 6/3-6/6/20. We are temporarily closed Sundays (until further notice) and continue to be closed on Mondays.

If you come to pick up at the shop, please remain in your car and call us to being your order out to you. Please help us spread the word that we are still closed to any in-store shopping as we have had several people come to the store expecting to come in to shop. We will remain closed to in-store shopping as long as there is a significant risk in our area (our county still has some of the highest numbers in the state). We appreciate your patience and understanding with our decision to try to keep our staff and customers healthy.

Regina Carter will be at the shop from 10 am-3 pm on Saturday, 6/6/20, for quilt drop off/pick up. Call her cell phone (770-328-6819) when you arrive at the shop and she will run out to your car. If you are bringing a quilt top for her, you can drop it off at the shop anytime this week that we are here (10 am-6 pm Tuesday, 10 am- 3pm Wednesday-Friday). Please call us (404-634-6924) when you arrive and we will run out to get your quilt from your trunk/hatch/back window. Please do not get out of your car and come up to the porch. We are trying to keep everyone safe by not having a bunch of folks on and around the front porch. If there are no parking spots in front of the shop when you arrive, please park in the mall and wait for a spot to open before you call Regina. A full lot means she is likely dealing with a few others and it will just add chaos to call before you you are actually in a parking spot out front.

Thank you "sew" much to everyone who took part in last week's first-ever virtual Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop! We had a fun five days of "visiting" each of the participating shops and sharing tons of great projects and products. Congratulations to all the prize winners:

Some of our most requested items are back in stock at IQF&Y! We received bolts of Georgia Tech and Atlanta Falcons fabric last week, as well as 1/4" elastic. If you've been looking for them, now is your chance to grab what you need, since these may sell out quickly (we've already sold out of our UGA restock).

It's June and that means we are counting down the days until the release of the new Tula's True Colors collection by Tula Pink for FreeSpirit Fabrics, which is now available for preorder on our website. Tula's fabric designs are in hot demand for all kinds of quilting and sewing projects and we're sure these will be a must-have for the Tula Troops. The collection is a versatile set of Tula basics, featuring an assortment of prints in a range of colors that work with so many of her collections. Included in the line is Tula's popular Fairy Dust print from her Pinkerville line in new colors plus a return of the amazing Cotton Candy colorway! The fabric is supposed to start shipping to stores next week although that could really mean the week after. Get your orders in ahead of the delivery and we will get yours cut before the bolts ever hit the floor!

For information on making face masks, check out our
Charity Projects page. Please also share our GoFundMe fundraiser with your friends and family who might like to help out with masks but cannot help with the sewing of them. Our fundraiser is helping to pay for the fabric that we are providing to anyone who asks (over $5000 given away so far) and to supplement the pay for the shop employees during this time of limited work hours.

We appreciate the support you've shown us during these uncertain times. Whether you are an essential worker during this crisis or doing your part to #stayhome, you are in our thoughts!

    Happy stitching,
    Sarah & the IQF&Y crew

STITCH ALONG WITH IQF&Y

Please note: All social stitching times are occurring via Zoom for the time being.

Sandra has worked out a way to have virtual craft time using Zoom, which is a free, online platform for spending time together for things like virtual meetings and gatherings. You can sign up for our virtual Crafting Alone, Together! (formerly known as Sit & Knit) here. It is great to connect in this time of separateness. Sandra is reinstating our regularly scheduled Sit & Knit times, but inviting all crafters to join our virtual get together. Join us via the Zoom application, either by video or audio connection. You can join anywhere and anytime on a laptop, tablet or phone. Once you sign up here, you will be emailed the information for joining in.

All the in-store meeting times below are suspended until further notice:

Sit & Stitch (Fabric)
Fridays, 10 am-1 pm suspended for now
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some quilt piecing by hand fun with friends! (We recommend bringing a snack so you can pop downstairs for a quick bite to stay energized for a full day of stitching.)

Open Sew
Weekdays suspended for now
Bring your machine and supplies to our classroom space and work on your sewing and quilting projects. If you see two days in a row listed, you are welcome to leave your things overnight for ease of sewing for two days, like a mini retreat.

Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Every Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Thursday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
Thursdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Saturday Sit & Stitch (Yarn)
The 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10 am-1 pm on Zoom
Drop in any time during the posted hours for some yarn fun with friends! Crocheters are welcome, too! This is great for beginners especially, as knitting near more experienced knitters allows for you to get immediate help with questions and mistakes which then helps you learn to recognize mistakes yourself and gives you the practice time to get better with your knitting.

Open Handcrafting
Sundays, noon-4 pm
Bring your handcrafts -- knitting, crocheting, EPP, hand applique, cross stitch, embroidery and more -- to work on at our spacious table among friends.

 Quilting/Sewing Classes

Please note: All classes are postponed for the time being.

Quiltmaking 101
Thursdays, To be determined, $200
Are you ready to make your first quilt? Our Quiltmaking 101 class will give you all the essential tips, tricks and know-how to make your quilting dreams come true. Our instructors are experienced quilters, eager to share their knowledge with you as you make a lap-size quilt from start to finish. You'll learn a variety of valuable techniques and terms, such as cutting, strip piecing, seam allowance, pin-basting, quilting, binding and more. We break up the class into four, 4-hour sessions, with "homework" you'll do in between sessions. A sewing machine is required for this class. Don't have one? We have two sewing machines you can reserve to use in the shop for class with a $25 deposit that will be returned to you when the classes are done. Taught by Sarah Oliver. Three student minimum.

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Knitting 101 by reservation
You can learn how to get started knitting during our weekly sit and knit or we can set up a time that works better for your schedule. Just reserve your spot for $40 prior to that day (either in store, online or by phone) and we will make sure there is someone there dedicated to teaching you how for the first hour of the morning sit & knit. Yarn and knitting needles included! We've found it is a great way for folks to learn. They can then sit with the teacher for awhile knitting and get help learning how to fix little mistakes as they arise. We've had great feedback on teaching knitting this way versus a separate class. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the session. If you would like to set up a private one-on-one, sign up online and then email us to let us know what dates work for you.

Norah's Vintage Afghan
A virtual knitalong (for the time being)
Our current shop knitalong, Norah's Vintage Afghan, with just a little bit of tweaking has moved online. Sandra is using Zoom for her weekly knitalong meetings. The regularly scheduled meetings are on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-4:40pm, and you sign up here or you can take part on your own during our ongoing virtual Crafting Alone, Together by signing up here. Once you have signed up, you will be emailed the information on how to join in. In addition, Sandra will provide instructions on the 1st and 3rd Sundays to set up each block in the Knit Companion App along with any tips she thinks will help. Led by Sandra Mazliah.

English Paper-Piecing Club
First Saturday of the month , 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Sometimes it is good to take a break from doing everything fast. English paper piecing is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.

UFO Club with Wanda Earley
First Tuesday of the month, 4:30-7:30 pm Free
Come join our paper piecing teacher Wanda Earley as she leads a monthly UFO Club. This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other. Special focus on foundation paper piecing and hand embroidery but any UFO projects are welcome.

By Hand: The Art of Slow Quilting
Third Saturday of the month, 9:30 am-1 pm Free
Handwork is a great way to slow down and enjoy the process of creating. When you do handwork, you can often take it with you to take advantage of times when you are just waiting for something else, you can actually talk to friends and family while working on your projects, and it is relaxing. We will get together and work on quilting projects by hand - hand piecing, English paper piecing, hand appliqué, hand quilting.  This is the time where you can bring in any project that you are working on or want to begin working on and we can help/encourage/get inspired by each other.
