Well, we are in the first week of August and things are just as strange as ever here in the greater Atlanta area. Many schools are starting back in one form or another. Teachers and employees in Gwinnett had to go back to get ready for school, and now there are 260 employees of the Gwinnett School system who have either tested positive for Covid19 or have been exposed to someone who has. While we are still worried about all the numbers in our area, we are prepared to let folks come back inside the shop via our reservation system later this week. You will need to secure a spot on the CALENDAR page of our website for $15 and then that $15 will get credited back to you when you check out. Why do we have a reservation fee? Because we are not ready for folks who just want to get out of their homes and come to browse. We want to keep the numbers low, to maintain some safety, and feel this is a way we can control it. Evidence suggests that there is a time factor involved in transmission of Covid19. The longer you are around a person who is infected, the more chance you may end up sick. Because of this aspect of transmission, we will keep appointments short, 30 minutes, and ask that you be prepared to respect this. You will also be required to wear a mask (no masks with valves allowed, https://hartfordhealthcare.org/about-us/news-press/news-detail?articleId=26322&publicid=395) and bring in hand sanitizer with you to use once you are inside the door. Of course visiting the website ahead of time to get some ideas of what you might want to look at, will help you stick to the allotted time. Check the website regularly for added reservation spots.
We will also continue on with online shopping and curbside pick up for those of you who are more comfortable shopping from home. We have been told some of the glitches on our site are fixed so please try again if you've had trouble.
We will be open for phone help (including FaceTime and texted photos if you like) and curbside pick-up from 11 am to 5 pm today and then 11 am to 2 pm Wednesday through Saturday (although we might be able to stay a bit later if you need it us to). As always, we will call you when your order has been filled and it is ready to be picked up. Please make sure that you put in a phone number where you can be reached (and that the mailbox is not full). As you can tell by the previous sentence, we have had some trouble reaching some folks.
Regina Carter will be at the shop Saturday August 8th from 11 am to about 2 pm to drop off quilts she is finished quilting and pick up any that you'd like her to quilt, so mark your calendars! All quilts being left for Regina, should always be in a decent bag of some sort, with your name and phone number and a description of what you are sending attached to the quilt inside of the bag. Then please write Regina Carter on the outside of the bag if you are bringing it before Saturday. Please do not bring them to us to bag and label for you. This is something you should do ahead of time to protect your quilt in the traveling process. Please remain in your car when you bring your quilts to the shop and call the shop or Regina to let her know you are outside to drop off or pick up. If you would like to have the the names of several other quilters we know, please CALL the shop at 404-634-6924, when we are there, and we can give you their information.
Have you visited our Sale and Last Chance pages recently? We have been adding new things all the time so check it out and help us move some things along please. Below you can see a few things we have added to either the Sale page or the Last chance page today. The Autumn Pines quilt kit that is on the Last Chance page, includes Judy Niemeyer quilt pattern that retails at $60 plus 7.5 yards of beautiful batiks fabrics that retail at about $13 per yard so at $105 for the kit, you are basically getting the pattern for free and a fabulous deal! There is also some great yarn on the two pages, and some for almost 50% off.

Sooooo.....get ready by pre-ordering your Quilts in Burano book from us at a discounted price for a limited time, and then pre-ordering fabric from the new line Kaffe Fassett Collective HERE to mix in with your stash you already have. You know how the Kaffe Fassett Collective works...you can basically throw any of his fabrics together and they will make something beautiful! He tends to run colors through all the different color ways in some way so that you do really even have to put a lot of thought into which you are using. As Jen Kingwell said in her lecture when she visited, "if you like the fabric, then it will go together" and that is how she comes up with her stunningly scrappy quilts. No planning, just grabbing and sewing! You can see the new August 20 fabrics HERE and all the Kaffe Collective HERE. We have fat quarter and fat eighth bundles for preorder and are working on some specially curated bundles from choices we like so check out the website to see all that is coming!
Many love to see fabric mixes that the IQ folks put together and the other day I (Sarah) played around with a mix of different Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics on my computer, creating a mix of some I would like to see put together into a quilt. I turned my mix into a fat quarter bundle for pre-order (it includes the new line not here yet) and can't wait to see some quilts put together with it. Check out the box in then photo below and order it here if you like it. I am thinking this mix would be a great starting point for a challenge quilt. I only created two bundles so if you miss out, check back on the website as we may make more.
Summer is the time to pull together fun end-of-year Holiday themed projects and then next one in line is Halloween. This year we ordered the really cute Candy Please panel by Sarah Watts from Ruby Star Society (formerly Cotton + Steel). This panel Sarah designed, includes a count-down to Halloween (like an advent calendar but for Halloween) wallhanging section, plus a really fun Happy Halloween bunting and some other cute designs of pumpkins, cats, spiders and skulls perfect for appliquéing on hand towels or making cute stuffies like Sarah Watts did. The count-down pockets are so easy to do the way Sarah designed the panel, as all you have to do is fold the number rows up on top of the solid section above each row, pin into place and stitch around the side and bottom edges of each number to create a picket with a folded edge finished top of the pocket. The price seems high, but the panel is large to include all you need for the front of the wallhanging and the front of the bunting. All you need is 1/3 yard for the binding and 1/3 yard for the bunting strip. So easy and so cute! You can order the panel HERE.
It's fun to get a little pop of Christmas at the shop during the heat of summer and this year's Deer Christmas offerings from Urban Chiks do not disappoint. We still have a couple of the awesome Deer Christmas kits but once they're gone, they are gone! The finished quilt measures ~70" x 78" and the kit includes all the fabric you need for the top, including the digital Deer Panel, pattern, plus binding (pre-cut as 2.5" strips). Just add backing -- and this Polka Dot Deer print from the line (selling quickly) would be perfect! We also have some layer cakes and charm packs from the line in stock and a few pieces of last season's Sweet Christmas, which coordinate nicely with this year's line. You can see all our Holiday themed fabric when you click HERE and all our Halloween fabric HERE.
We are so excited to have the Flower Market line from Anna Maria Horner's Conservatory collaboration and designed by Courtney Cerruti in the shop now. There is a fabulous Spectrum panel and twelve wonderful prints to go with it, from which we have created a fat quarter bundle for those who love to sew with fat quarters. You can see a few of the prints in the collage below and click the underlined words above to see more of the fabrics.
For information on making face masks, check out our Charity Projects page. Please also share our GoFundMe fundraiser with your friends and family who might like to help out with masks but cannot help with the sewing of them. Our fundraiser is helping to pay for the fabric that we are providing to anyone who asks (over $5000 given away so far) and to supplement the pay for the shop employees during this time of limited work hours.
We appreciate the support you've shown us during these uncertain times. Whether you are an essential worker during this crisis or doing your part to #stayhome, you are in our thoughts!
